We made Leo's cookies this weekend too for the first time, and they were a big hit! A batch made 3-4 dozen (I probably rolled them out too thin), plenty to share with all the neighbors and coworkers with dogs.

The herb Rosemary is not harmful to dogs, in fact most of them do not like the smell. I have a huge plant outside and none of my three have ever gone near it.

The Rosemary Pea or the Rosary Pea plant is extremely dangerous for them however. It grows in tropical regions. The link below goes to pictures so that you can see the difference. Hope this helps.
Rosary Pea

Lamb Pasta Plate
 

5 oz ( 150 g ) lamb
1 sm clove of garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 carrot
3 1/2 oz ( 100 g ) mushrooms
3 1/2 oz ( 100 g ) frozen peas
3 1/2 oz (100 g ) thin pasta for soup
1 tablespoon grated Swiss Cheese ( Emmental )

Dice the lamb into very small cubes. Peel and finely chop the garlic. Brown
the meat and garlic in olive oil. Peel the carrot, grate, add to the meat ,
add 1/2 cup ( 125 ml ) water, and simmer together for 15 min.

In the meantime, peel and chop the mushrooms. Add to the meat together
with defrosted peas and simmer for 5 min.

Cook the pasta in unsalted water till al dente. Drain and mix with the lamb
and vegetable mixture. Allow to cool, sprinkle with cheese, and serve in
portion.

Pet friendly Burgers
 

The next time you make burgers for your family , include some for your furbabies with this easy recipe !

1/2 pound of ground chicken
1/2 cup of cooked white rice
1/4 cup of plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoonof salt
extra virgin olive oil (to use for drizzling )
4 small round dinner rolls

Directions
Mix the meat, rice, yogurt and salt ( easy on the salt ) in a bowl. Make 4 patties and drizzle the olive oil on one side of each.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3 to 4 min. per side, starting with the olive oil side. Put the burgers in the rolls and cut into pieces.
Servings: 4

Smoothies for your furbabies
 

8 ounces of plain yogurt
1 cup of raspberries
1 mango sliced
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon of honey
1 cup of water

Mix all the ingredients in a blender at high speed until smooth. Pour
the smoothies into small bowls and freeze. Once they have frozen,
remove them and set them on the floor for your dog to enjoy.

Pumpkin Treats
 

1 1/2 cups wheat flour
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons Crisco
1 whole egg
1/2 cup milk

Set oven to 400 degrees, Mix flour, cinnamon and nutmeg and add to shortening. Beat egg with milk and pumbkin and add to flour. Use a tablespoon to place cookies onto a cookie sheet.
Bake for 15 min.

Prep Time : 5 Min
Cook Time : 15 Min
Total Time : 20 Min
Servings: 4

:thumbup: I just made them too and Milo loves them! We also have plenty to share with friends. I am going to try making them with baby food bananas (instead of carrots) next time and see if they are also a hit. I used a bone shaped cookie cutter and they are so cute, although too big for Milo to eat whole. :)

I do!! And yes we are sort-of in the "crazy rhelm" unfortunately. Everyone I have told at work looks at me like I'm crazy or else they raise one eyebrow and say...."Seriously? Your actually going to cook for your dog....?"

But who cares!!! In the end, I think I would still rather be constructive by baking for my Yorkie instead of sitting on my butt doing nothing all day.......wouldn't you?

It's not like baking for a dog is hurting anyone!! Or is unlawful, or abusive.....like seriously.....We love our dogs....who cares!!

I love to cook, so it's fun cooking for them ! they know mommy is cooking and they'r so excited waiting for their treat ! I just love to see them eat . I cook for at least a week or 2 at a time and put the food in different plastic bags and freeze it . I just leave enough out in the ref for 2-3 days at a time.
They know , I get up make my coffee and I feed them before I sit to read the paper and drink my coffee, I try once to read the paper before feeding them and they jump and jump on my paper and one of them sat on it and would not move until I got up to feed them , all I do is laugh .
So if non-fur owner don't understand I just look at them and said U don't know what u r missing in life, The very best gift you can give yourself.

Well I made Leo's cookies today..Mandie wouldn't eat them, I was so disapointed. I thought she would like them because she LOVES carrots. She is just SOO picky!!! Instead of waisting them I took them to my aunt who has a yorkie and he LOVED them!!!! He kept looking at me with sad eyes so i'd give him another one. It was too cute. (About how many are they allowed to have?? I made them about the size of a quarter) Has anyone tried another flavor of baby food instead of the carrots in the cookies???

Maybe I'll try another recipe for Mandie, to see if she likes it!!

Did you try taking Mandie to see your Aunt's dog eating them? Sometimes it feel like when they see someone else eating what you prepared for them, then it must be good and they will eat it. "Hmm, I guess Mom's not trying to poison me after all." LOL Give it a try if you haven't. Sylvia

I just wated to post it for you, but I have NEVER tried it. I took a human recipe, and changed all the "bad-for-dogs" ingredients to "ok-for-dogs" ingredients.

Maybe if you try this and it doesn't turn out, you could offer some suggestions on how to improve it.

I always experiment with treats for Dooie using the things he likes, so I though I would do one for you :)

BANANA OATMEAL COOKIES

Oatmeal cookies with a banana twist
Banana ripening: 2 weeks
Hands-on time: 30 minutes
Time to table: 1 hour
Makes about 30 cookies, easily doubled
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup real Maple Syrup
1 very very ripe banana
1 egg white
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup rice flour (fluffed to Airate)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1-1/2 cups oatmeal (old-fashioned or quick, not instant)
Preheat oven to 350F.

Gently warm honey and syrup in the microwave.
With an electric mixer, thoroughly mix in honey, syrup, banana, egg white and vanilla.
Add the flour, baking power, and baking soda into the mixture only small amounts at a time.
With a fork, gently fold in dry ingredients.
Now use the mixer to combine all the ingredients together.
Stir in oatmeal.
Drop dough by tablespoons onto a baking sheet lined with parchment.

Bake for 11 – 14 minutes until set and golden. Cool 5 minutes only before removing from tray (do not skip this step or cookies will stick)


***NOTE***
Question: In many veterinarian sites they say that baking powder or soda is really harmful for dogs. So I really want to make a cake or treat for my two dogs, but I am not sure if baking powder is safe?

Chef's Answer ~ You should not feed your dog straight baking powder or baking soda, but using a teaspoon or two in a dog cake or other dog treat should not cause any problems.
