I wanted to ask everyone. My baby is howling when he is in a seasure. Do you think that it hurts him or is just an effect of the saesure? It doesn't happen on every seasure but my heart is breaking when it does b/c I keep thinking that maybe he's hurting and asking for my help...I just don't know anymore.

the howling is a side effect of hte seizure. They don't feel any pain during them from what i've been told, unless they fall during it. i know its so sad when they do this

oh the poor thing. Definately remind the vet at hte university about it and ask them to speak to your other vet to see if they can figure anything out about what may have caused it. its scary when these things happen but i'm sure since he's having it at the university they have all the best machines and tools to use.

Yes, he is on a low protein diet and lactulose. He is allowed only 3 meals a day with lactulose in. The meals are very tiny and he always seems to be hungry. But the vet did told me not to overfeed him as that can cause seasures as well when you have liver shunt.
I am giving him in case of a seisure 0.2 ml of valium in the first minutes and after that I give him another 0.5 ml in half an hour. I did not know that valium can cause other kidney problems as well. I think I will have to have a chat with my doctor and will also tell him about the ''clavamox''.
He's also on anothe medicine which he takes half, twice a day and is called Synulox(50 mg).

My baby Bobo (almost the same name as yours) had liver shunt surgery 3mos ago and they did do his neuter at the same time. He is doing well now. Tammy

How old is he and does he still need to be on a special regime or treatment of any kind? How much did he weigh when he had the surgery b/c my baby is only 3 pounds.

Valium is extremely hard on their livers...So, although it may stop the seizures, it's hurting him as well...I'll pm you!

But maybe in a case of emergency, valium is necessary?? Not sure...What prescription food is your baby on?
