| Tails: To crop or not to crop Our Yorkie just had 2 pups Monday night. We have an appointment tomorrow to get their dewclaws and tails cropped, but I'm not sure if we should get the tails cropped. The mom has hers cropped, but the dad doesn't. Is there any "normal" choice between cropped, half-cropped, or not cropped? Thanks in advance! |

| I think most people (prospective buyers) would prefer cropped tails and I think they are cute. But I would really like to see a trend towards not cropping. It just seems cruel to me to do it.

| I really love the cropped tail, and I have to be honest that I'd choose a yorkie with a cropped tail over one that wasn't... What I'd be against though is dew-claw removal. As much as it's so much nicer and easier without them (I admit, I do like when they're not there--they grow so fast!) they're the dog's thumbs and they do use them to grasp things. Do I think it's cruel to remove them? Absolutely not. Can they function without them? Yeah. But I'd kinda be lost without my thumbs, and I see my dog (who doesn't have them) grasping a bone and I kinda feel bad cuz I know he'd have an easier time if he had his wittle thumb! Congrats on your new babies!!! |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I prefer the docked tails as I do on all dogs who are "supposed" to have them docked due to the standard.

I Love Thor Donating Member | I would either do it, or not, no half docked business. Good luck on your decision!!! I know it's going to be a tough one! |

| For starters, you should know that Yorkies don't have cropped ears... Other than that, you will get every possible answer as to if you should or shouldn't have this done. It is standard, and from what I've seen, the discomfort is minimal if done correctly. Some people view it as cruel and it is banned in Europe. So there's the facts... My advice is, figure out what YOU want, talk it over with your vet and proceed accordingly. |

| My Rhapsody's tail isn't cropped. Tiger is. I think the full tail is cute, but Tiger's cropped tail doesn't take away from his cuteness either. Lol, I guess I haven't been helpful.

| I agree with de-clawing being cruel IMO. However, it has been said that docking the tail is the same thing as a circumcision for an infant male...I don't see that as "cruel"

| I go tomorrow to get the tails docked and dew claws removed. I'm NOT looking forward to it and hope their pain doesn't last long.
