It's actually been available for about a year. We are lucky enough to have a vet on the Maltese forum I belong to and she tells us about new things. She feels it's safe and inoculated her own dogs.

I don't think I would want to give them anymore shots then they already get. Especially reading that it has resulted in some bad reactions. Will just keep using our kibble, and bones to help clean their teeth.

Thanks for posting those links, they were interesting articles! I think it is definitely something that deserves attention if it can help prevent a disease that can lead to a lot of other health problems. As far as bad reactions to it, can't the same be said for any vaccine? All dogs react differently to them it seems like.

I don't like New medications of any type. There are too much chances that it will do more harm than good until time has passed to make sure there are as little life threatening side effects.

Jazzie got an injectable heartworm treatment and it caused a tumor in the injection site that needed to be sugically removed. The pharmacutical company paid for the surgery and the FDA recalled the vaccine after many dogs died from it!

Never again will I use any New or Unproven medications for my babies or myself!

I would never get it. It is brand new and Pfizer doesn't even kow the side effects yet. It also could have to be giving often. I wouldn't be putting more drugs into these dog's systems. I prefer Oravet which is a wax/plaque barrier that is non-toxic.
