Concerned Can someone please tell me when they stop eating three meals a day, Gucci is a little over 4 mts. she has been eating her dry food 3xs a day. As of yesterday she didnt want to eat dinner, and this morning she didnt eat her breakfast. I am a concerned, she is behaving in her usual way. I read on here that they cut down their meals to twice a day. I was wondering if she is still to young to do that. Appreciate the feedback...

They seem to go through periods where they eat on schedule and well, and other times when they are kinda finicky. We sort of solved this by offering dry kibble (I use Natural Choice, but others are fine, too) all the time. We just keep their bowls supplied so they can nibble when they are hungry. I do think that just feeding a 4 month old twice a day is not really enough, unless you are giving them lots of treats in between. I have to be careful that I don't make the treats I give Higgins the major portion of his diet, since he's so cute, it's hard to resist.....but then his good nutrition will suffer. On the days he has a Greenie (about twice a week), he fills up and doesn't eat as much of his kibble. Exercise also plays a part. Higgins eats a LOT for a 6 pound Yorkie! And his little body is HARD muscle, no fat, and slim. But that little boy RUNS all day! He is tearing up our woods and racing around the house and playing fetch seemingly without stopping. He does stop for a couple of SHORT naps during the day, but he is otherwise the most energetic dog I have ever known. So he can get away with eating more than the normal 6 pound pup. It is going to be soooooo hard on him this winter when he will have to be on a leash all the time and only have a tiny camper to play in......sigh.......

I'd say 4 months is still a bit too young to cut down the meals. I believe Yoda cut down to two meals a day around 8 or 10 months. We usually do leave his dry kibble out there, I think if your baby girl is at least eating twice a day, it should be okay, just make sure they don't start having the shivers because they haven't eaten anything!

Our girls have a good breakfast, then a snack around 3, then dine again about 8:30 p.m. They like Royal Canin for Yorkies, with a tad of Pedigree, Lil Champions of Chicken morsels with rice sometimes. They maintain the 5 lbs still. Lindsey turned 5 yrs. old yesterday and she's more active then her older sister, Lacey who will be 7 yrs. old the end of Dec. We usually leave a small twin dish of the Royal Canin out for them to snack if they want besides. I guess they eat when they want to, and they always want us with them when they dine. for breakast in bed, and the evening meal.

| Toto is 15 months and weighs 4 lbs. and she is a very finicky eater! I try to keep her on her schedule of breakfast, a little spoon of cottage cheese or other surprise early in the afternoon and her evening meal between 5:30 to 6:30 PM. I keep her a little bowl of Royal Canin dry kibble available and she occasionally eats a little of that. In addition, throughout the day she gets little treats when she is a "good girl"! Our vet was absolutely right ... when they get hungry, they will eat!! This was a hard lesson for me to learn!! I felt that if she wasn't eating what I thought she should, she would die! After taking Dr. Lucy's advice, I found that she would not!!
