Sooo...what is everyone feeding them now???
 
With all the recent problems with foods (dry, canned, etc).....what is everyone now feeding their furbabies???

I am so upset trying to figure out what is a good source of food - other then making our own.....are there recipes for this and would they get all the nutrients they need from that?

Would they get all the nutrients if we just did boiled chicken, rice, carrots, cheese, etc???

((((AURGH)))))

Also, at one time, someone sent me information on food that you can order - you had to order from a consultant - that was fresh baked.....I can't remember the name of it....but it was shipped to your door within a few days of ordering because it was made fresh. Does anyone know this company and is it worth it??

Butchers are one of the companies that are fine and the dogs love it... to be honest it smells rel good i could probably eat it myself

I was wondering the same thing. We use Blue Buffalo, which is supposed to be real good. Then again, Nutro was supposed to be real good too. I'm confused. I barely have time to cook for myself, much less cook for my dog.

Right now mine are eating Nature's Variety Raw Frozen.

I am also going to try to get some of this in place of the NV:

...they also get a few pieces of kibble a day (no one really eats many of it - maybe 2 pieces hahahaha - Canidae Platnium)

I have been feeding Innova and Canidae dry for the dogs and Chicken Soup for the cat.
Merricks wet has been wonderful for both the dogs and the cat. All of these use only human grade ingrediants with no by products, corn or wheat or fillers. The Merricks wet is just pure food!
We have been fortunate so far with these.

was giving him Nutro dry but even though dry wasnt on the list i changed back to Natural Balance :D

Thanks everyone....I haven't even heard of some of these...like Butchers....

We are still feeding the Nutro Natural Choice For Sensitive Stomaches - Lamb and Rice (dry, small kibble) because right now, that is the only thing that picky eater Mojo will eat. BUT, in the back of my mind....I have that sliver of doubt/worry about feeding it to him since all the wet food recalls.....aurgh!

I've heard good things about Merrick, but do you have to buy that online? Is it carried in stores and were they (wet food) not listed in the food recall?

Gracie is now eating Merrick's and occasionally some ProPlan. I find Merrick's in my local Mom and Pop stores, not at the big chain stores.

You can buy it in pet stores. I just bought some yesterday to try. Go to their website and do a store search. Put in your zip code and it will give you stores near you!!

try Chicken Soup for dogs
 
I feed my little one Chicken Soup for the last 2 years (Puppy food first and then we switched to the Adult formula). It is NOT affected by the recall. Our little girl loves this food. I recommend it to everyone.

they both eat Royal Canin Dry and now Natural balance Rolls and canned...But only once a week for the canned...I much rather cook for them both now...This is becoming way too scary!!!

WE're still doing Innova, I haven't heard or seen it on a list of recalled food, dry or wet.

We're still using Nature's Variety raw frozen and NV kibble but I may switch to cooking for them. It seems everything is great until we read about a recall so maybe cooking for them and giving them fresh food is the answer.

I have a question :confused:
One manufacturer made food that was marketed under so many different labels. From companies that some consider "low end" to others that are considered "high end" or premium foods. It looks like the food was all made in the same pot and packaged for sale by different companies at different prices.
Here's the question: How do you/I know that one food is better or safer than any another food ?
Did we know that Ol'Roy, Meijer, Save A Lot, Mighty Dog, Iams & Nutro dog food was made in the same factory?
Mars foods says Pedigree & Ceasar are ok because they are not made by Menu Foods. Who whould have thought?

I don't mean to create the "grand" dog food debate. I'm just as confused as alot of people and am trying to understand all of this.
(I have a brain injury and sometimes things just don't make sense.)

Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken
 
i have tried just about everything for my girls. They are super picky eaters and most have too large of kibbles for mine. We did fine one that they all love it that is the Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken. They sell the duck but they hated it. They love the chicken. It has a canned equivalent which i am feeding to my new one since she has a hard time with the kibbles due to having both sets of teeth! :D I'll put her on the kibbles after getting spayed and dental work next week. I am going to try some of these others that have been mentioned too. i would hate to have to start cooking for my girls since i don't even cook for me and my hubby! :)

It's just like human food. One manufacturing plant may make many brands of the same item. They add different ingredients depending on what the company's requirements are. Not all of Menu's food was recalled. Only that with gluten that was made during specific time-frame at a specific place.

I'm still feeding Tink her Nutro kibble. I did take back some of her canned food because it was on the list. I replaced it with Nutro cans that were not on the list. She only gets a little canned with her kibble in the morning for breakfast.

I'll admit I've considered cooking for Tink. I've started doing some research about it. The verdict is still out.

Thanks, it's making more sense to me now. When I get real upset about somethings it's hard to sort out the logic.

Mine are eating Canidae All Life Stages. Maggie has a real sensitive tummy and It works real well for her.

Hello everyone,

I feed Mollie Mae, Abbi Rose, Cody Joe, Cubbycuddles and Bailey Nutro Max Natural Choice dry. I was feeding the canned also. Molliemae has really done well on it because of her dry skin and she doesn't itch hardly any. My concern is, we are supposed to switch them a little at a time and mix the old food with the new. I see that Nutro is on the list, but how about the dry? I am so upset as we all are. Any help would be so appreciated from you guys. My heart truly goes out to those with sick babies. We try so hard to feed them right and then this had to happen. I saw where someone is still feeding the dry to their babies. I don't know what to do about suddenly changing their foods. I was so happy when Molliemae quit itching and digging at herself. The Nutro made all the difference in the world for her. Should I just change foods just like that? I am so confused as we all are that have fed these foods to our babies.

If I'm not mistaken, Merricks was recalled about a year ago...we can get it in some of the stores around here.

I feed Verus. Kirby and Bernie are on the senior formula (Kirby because he's a senior, Bernie because the vet recommended it due to his injuries) and Ginger's on the Menhaden Fish Meal. Before this they were on Pinnacle. Both are high quality foods, but my guys are BEGGING to be fed ever since I switched to the Verus. (no, I'm not an employee :) )

I guess nothing is completely safe. Even human food gets contaminated from time to time. But, I'd stay away from anything that's produced in one of those huge facilities that makes lots of brands. JMO.

Merricks is not on the recall list at all. Their food is not made in any of those places that had contaminated stuff. You don't have to buy it online either :) Go on their website, and you'll be able to look up locations where they sell their food. Good luck :)

I think it was Diamond or Chicken Soup that was recalled last year...I didn't hear anything about Merricks.
