| Best Food For Yorkies... I'm starting a new thread. With all of this talk about recalled pet food two things have become apparent, the first being that I was grossly misled by my breeder and vet about dog food choices and the second is that only canned and pouched food is involved in this recall because no dry dog food was manufactured either in the same plant or by menufoods in general, so dry is safe, atleast that's what i'm understanding. I had a shih-tzu/pomeranian dog for 16 1/2 years, may he rest in peace, in 1989 we started him on Eukanuba and after a few years switched to Iams. When we got our Yorkie around Christmas the breeder sent us home with Eukanuba, we couldn't find it around here so we started Vinnie on Iams Smart Puppy for toy breeds. I live in a small town with limited options for finding good dog food. My sister came home from California all about Nutro. The nearest PetSmart is an hour away, I am willing to drive there if that's the only place I can find proper pet food for my precious pooch. My question is what is the best food for my Yorkie? |

| There are tons of posts about food. I've tried so many different brands with my two. Last time, they were eating Artemis which I bought online. I was running low on my supply of that and didn't have time to wait for another bag to be shipped. I went to a local feed store and the lady recommended one of the Innova bags. When I first got Kona, I had her started on Innova but she didn't seem too interested in the puppy version, but she seems to like the adult version. Good luck in your search! Try to look online to see if there is a feed store nearby - they tend to carry the better brands. And if push comes to shove, you could always order your food online.

| You can always order food on-line (it would save you the driving time). Some good brands that I recommend are: Merricks (any flavor) Canidae All Life Stages Chicken Soup Innova Evo Timberwolf Organics There are many more but these few just came to mind. You can also check out this website that rates dog food. I only buy 5 or 6 star food. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/

| check www.dogfoodanalysis.com and click on check reveiws. you'll be surprised . I was using Eukanuba thinking it was a good food all this time as t is recommended thru vets, breeders and often advertised by dog shows but read for yourself and see. I'm trying to find a local retailer for GO or Innova no luck yet but as of today I'm feeding "Chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul" that I found at a feed store. Petsmart don't carry this premium dog foods , the only one they have is "Blue Buffalo" which is still good according to this review. Good luck . |

| Call the different companies And they may be able to send you a small packet or 2 of the food you request. If not, Innova will at least send you some coupons (they did for me last week!). Also, some of the health food stores carry some of the brands mentioned on this thread. Call them and ask! I also did this and received some FREE packets of food (California Natural Chicken Meal & Rice). Worst case scenario, like the others on here say, order the food online and save yourself some gas and time! Hope this helps! |

| Im having puppy food blues too. I am so confused on what to feed Izzy. I just bought a $15 bag of holistic food pre-mix this weekend. I haven not used it yet because I have a few issues: 1. its expensive 2. the prep is a bit much for me 3. since it requires fresh ingredients, I dont know what to do about feeding him when Im away. I want the best for him but at the same time it has to be convenient. I guess I will try out the pre-mix and see what happens...I have no choice I already opened the package. Right now he is eating Nutro Ultra Puppy but he really doesnt like it and he seems to itch alot which could be allergies.

| Well I must join in here. I too am having the dog food blues. I took my Izzy to the vet to get her last set of puppy shots...YIPEE and told them she only eats my adult Yorkies food (which is a mixture of a Purina One and some organic food which I paid $15 a 3lb bag ) I have Proplan puppy and she won't eat it. I am using Proplan because that is what Cody's breeder told me to feed him 3 years ago. When I picked Izzy up her breeder was feeding her Science Diet small bites. So today I told the vet she is not eating this food so they send me home w/ a free bag of science diet. I don't know what to do. No stores around me sell these better brands. I did get a bunch of samples from a very sweet member on here and I am trying Chicken Soup right now. So far no interest. I was mixing Nutro with their food but of course had to throw it out. So I am stressed trying to find a decent food that won't break the bank.

| I have been told that picky eaters love Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie...My little maltese is very picky and she didn't like some of the other high quality foods that she was being fed, so we tried Merricks and she loves it Also, for those of you that want to know about where to get some of the quality foods...Natural Balance and Solid Gold are sold at Petco...These are 4 & 5 star foods....So if you don't want to order online, maybe you could try those. Just a suggestion

| No...Miko has to be on a special prescription diet because of his liver condition, but he likes it (his prescription food) I think he knows it's good for him. He won't eat other foods even if he can because he knows they make him sick... Sometimes he wants to, but he can't. We have to be very strict with his diet, so we feed him and Emma separately. But we buy snacks that they can both eat. Like...green apples (peeled and cut up), yogurt, yogurt drops, little pieces of whole wheat bread, etc.
