I was thinking of trying Natural Balance as well. Every three-six months I like to rotate their food but have been so happy with Canidae I haven't changed yet. I have heard good things about Natural Balance though and the lower protien content in it is a nice thing for all of us with these small guys, they don't need as much protien as many of the larger dogs do.

Natural Balance is not as high quality as Canidae...doesn't even come close in my opinion. The one and only reason I would change is if Hobbs' skin doesn't clear up and then I would only change Hobbs and keep Lamar and Hootie on Canidae. Then and only then would Natural Balance be a better selection than Canidae and it would only be a better selection for Hobbs as my other 2 are thriving on it. The allergy forumlas of Natural Balance have insufficient meat quantity and the other varieties contain fillers that I don't agree with.

This thread was so interesting to read! Thanks everyone for all of their hints. Have one pet out of four that has a skin problem so trying any or all of these suggestions just might do the job!! Thanks again!!!

Nutra T Gel is wonderful, as a final rinse 10 parts water to 1 part vinegar. Also, try adding Flax Seed Oil to your pups meals.

I think the whole purpose of the allergy formula is to NOT have the meat.
I do know a few who choose this formula and then add a bit of chicken or other meat INTO the kibble as they choose.

I guess the quality factor is a matter of opinion and how your dog handles certain ingredients:)

Hm....interesting. I knew it wasn't rated as high but didn't see that it had fillers in it :cool: I've been mixing in Timberwolf Organics with their Canidae and was looking for a new food to start mixing in with their Canidae. I read an interesting article the other day about how you should switch your dogs food , otpimally, once every three months to ensure they are getting a wide variety of nutrients. They've been on Canidae with Timberwolf Organics mixed in for a while now so I was looking for a new food. I was debating between Natural Balance and California Naturals....guess I'm going to have to do some more research on both of them :thumbup:

How about the Canidae lamb and rice meal.......it's for all life stages as well. Mine eat this.

Have you tried testing for scabies? Summerlin kept itching and I thought she had dry skin, but I kept changing her food, started on missing link, changed shampoos, oatmeal baths, everything I could think of and that was suggested. Finally took her to the vet and they said she had scabies, that she had probably had them when I got her a month ago. Now she has to be dipped in some foul smelling medication once a week for four weeks, but she has had one treatment and already looks a hundred times better. Her skin is looking great. :) She smelled horrible for the first day and a half, but after that the smell kind of wore off. The only really bad thing is that I can't bath her after she is dipped....
