Have you tried Sunflower oil . My vet told me to put on the food . This was for our cat he had a lot of dandruff.It helped.Talk to your Vet about it.

Hey Rebecca! You know Jaden had the same problem as Hobbs and it is so frustrating :rolleyes: I switched his food to Canidae and we use the grizzly salmon oil just like you do. I've made two changes lately that really seem to be helping him. First, I tried the new shampoo and conditioner Kathryn V has at Beyond Spoiled called "Cranberry Fields" and it is awesome! :thumbup: :thumbup: After I bathed Jaden and Jewelina in it ZERO flakes and their coats were SUPER shiny!! :) :) I talked with my vet about it and he said to try to use just conditioner on him instead of the shampoo and to do a final rinse with apple cider vinager 1/4 part vinager to water. He also said to add in Lavendar and Chamomile to that final rinse of apple cider vinager and water. Once you rinse them off with this you just leave it, no more water on them after that. So, I've been doing that and now I only use shampoo Jaden when he is really dirty. It's made a world of difference for us! I also always have him in a jacket, shirt something unless it is REALLY hot outside to help protect his skin.

Im Sorry it wasnt Sunflower oil It was Safflower oil 1 tablespoon on food 1 or 2 times a week.

Rebecca I would immediately stop using any human products on Hobbs. When I spoke to the 3 different vets Coco had at one time, they all said human shampoos have a different pH balance and will cause dandruff and flakes, not to mention itching. I would switch to an oatmeal based puppy/dog shampoo with conditioner, and keep the salmon oil and food that same. It will take probably about a month to take affect but I'm sure it will. DO NOT use Nutragena, it is the worse and harshest stuff for humans, not to even mention these little guys. There's my $.2 :rolleyes: KISSES TO HOBBS

:thumbup: :thumbup: This was going to be my suggestion too. A dog's skin is much more alkaline than our own. Human shampoos are designed to be more acid, making them too harsh on pet skin. You should especially not use medicated shampoo on dogs. I've also read not to use baby shampoo. Stick with a pet shampoo -- you may want one especially designed for skin problems until you clear this up. But just getting back to a more alkaline product might take care of it.

Mane & Tail, shampoo and conditioner are cheap and work great. I used to work on a ranch, and that's what we used, and those horses shined liked crazy.

Thank you SOOOOOOO much everyone for all your helpful suggestions. I have had Hobbs on Missing LInk in the past to no avail. I will try the Apple Cider Vinegar rinse and switch shampoos. Well I decided to use the neutrogena on Lex because nothing else worked including other meds that the vet gave him because he also had a spot of dryness on the end of his ear. So after exhausting all that and spending a ton on other things I decided why not. It took two washings and he is completely cured. The coal tar that is in the neutrogena that helps is also put into dog shampoos. If you check your local store you will find a few dog shampoos with the stuff in it that is made for doggie dandruff. I never use human products on my dogs but this once it was worth it. I spent soooo much money with stuff from the vet and none of it worked.

I really think its your food. I would get a lamb based food instead of chicken

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's his food, too. Ugh. I just bought some of that shampoo and conditioner from BeyondSpoiled. I am going to try that and if all else fails, I am going to switch him to Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Duck. There aren't any ingredients in this food that are in the food I am currently feeding him just in case he is allergic to something other than chicken, I won't have a problem.

I was reading last night about skin allergies and I read about the sweet potato and duck food. I was going to ask if you had tried that. Good luck with that.

I always use a bit of oil in the dogs food . It works wonders after about a month. I also feed Natural Balance fish and sweet potato. My newest pup went from snowflake skin to smooth and shiney after about a month or so.
