| Yorkie needs to loose weight Hi, I have 2 yorkies and a lhasa apso. 1 yorkie is 16 yrs old and we feed him soft food because he has no teeth. The other yorkie (5 yrs old) and the lhasa (3 yrs old) share food. I feed them Natural Choice lamb and rice small bites, between 2 1/2 to 3 cups a day for both of them. The overweight yorkie (Mylie) is 10lbs and she normally weighs 5-6lbs. I had her checked for thyroid problems and it was low so she is on medicine. That did no help with her weight issue. I began restricting their food about 2 months ago and still no weight loss. She has been overweight for a year now and I need help. How much should I be feeding her? What else can I do to help her? Thanks, Jeff |

| I am not for sure if the vet did, I will check. He has checked her thyroid twice now and with meds her level is normal. He sent the bloodwork out because she has so much fat in her sample. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | have you tried diet food? natural choice comes in a lite variety. http://www.nutroproducts.com/ncdoglite.asp if that doesn't work you can ask your vet to prescribe you some R/D which is hill's prescription diet diet food.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | she's acting hungry because she's used to eating so much. your not starving her by feeding the recommended amount on the back. don't give in to the whining. she's not really hungry, she just wants to eat because she likes being a little fatty. most dogs will eat and eat and eat until you tell them to stop.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | If you can take her for a walk twice a day for about 20-30 minutes. I forgot where you are from so this may or maynot be feesible right now. here its about 19 degrees outside so there is no way i'm taking morgan for a walk. Even if she could handle it, I couldn't LOL

| You could try adding cooked brocolli to her food to add up to the amount she is used to eating, or cooked green beans. That way she can still "eat a lot" but the added veg is healthy, and it will help with her diet. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | also you can give ice cubes! they are crunchy like food and the water will fill them up. you can trick her into thinking she is eating lol
