I am on my way out the door to get some of this for Sassy. I don't know how she turned into such a fussy eater. I changed from Purina puppy chow that the breeder had her on because she was just a couple of weeks away from a year old when I got her. I went to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. She won't eat it. I then began putting baby food lamb with lamb broth in with it. She ate it for a little bit. Now she won't even eat that.:( **sigh** Then I decided to try Royal Canin for Yorkies. Nope. That doesn't do it for her either. She acts just fine but I am so distressed because she is hardly eating. It is exasperating. The pet store told me to bring it back if she won't eat it. So I will do that and try this brand that you all are discussing. I am thankful you all are here for me to get this sort of info from. Didn't mean to hi-jack this thread, but this is just the answer to questions I need answers to. |

I just got lots of samples in the mail this week. The only one that refused to send samples was Innova, and for Canidae, email your sample request instead of call. I did both and was turned down for the call, but through email, they sent me two sample bags. I actually think the Canidae kibbles are a little large. Chloe is only 4 months though, and maybe when she's bigger they'd be better. Here's who sent me samples Canidae--two different varieties and a $2 coupon Diamond/chicken soup--they sent me samples of both kinds. Note, they changed the recipe for the Diamond, and it has no corn. (Corn was what they had a problem with before). DVP Natural Balance--they sent lots of different samples and samples of their meat rolls. So far Chloe loves the lamb roll. Wellness--a couple bags of food |
The lady distributor told me it was about good for two weeks. That is why I bought the canned instead of dry. No way my dogs would go through a 5.5 lb bag in two weeks. I still have Puppy Nutro food left. |

My main concern....how long do I let her go without eating before I intervene again...or lose my mind...whichever comes first...... it is so hard to just wait for her. I feel like I am neglecting her.... |

Hope this helps you out. I know how hard it can be when your little one doesn't eat. |
I had called the emergency vet clinic in a nearby town. Asked if I could possibly give her something over the counter, pediatric strength for her diarreah....she said no. Nothing to do but wait it out until I can contact my vet. Soooo..... I broke down and...... Well....I couldn't help myself from doing it. I just had to try again. I used the dry food, put it in the blender and powdered it. Mixed it with water. Fed her some from a spoon which she ate, (suspiciously, I might add) then I had to....get this!!...put it on the floor instead of a dish so she would eat it. If I had thought it would have helped I would have done all that standing on my head! I am just thoroughly gone, aren't I? |
I am so upset that it only last 2 weeks...I bought a 40 lb bag for my yorkie and lab puppy, they will never eat 40 lbs in 2 weeks. The problem is I have to order it online because there is no one around where I live that sells it, so I ordered a 40 lb bag to last me...:( |
Oh my gosh! Forty pounds shipped must have cost a fortune. Maybe there is some place near you that could ship you a smaller bag. If you live in a small town, try one of the bigger towns close to you. I'll bet they would. |

I was amazed that both my Yorkies love Canidae canned food. I only bought three of the smallest cans to try out ($2.58 total) and they are both eating it. My oldest doesn't eat like she did when younger but eats this stuff up. I plan on buying the bigger can next time. Good to know cottage cheese is high in protein, may have to give some of this to the puppy as a treat sometime. The Canidae is not high in protein so I have left dry Purina Pro Plan as part of her puppy diet. |
I tried the Candiae all Life Stages for all my inside pups. My Yorkie and Griffons started scratching alot and their skin looks dry. My English Bulldog's coat does not look as rich and her tear stains have returned. The best thing I did see was the poop was smaller and firmer. I was feeding Exclusive Lamb and Rice and they all were doing great on it. I don't know how it is rated but I am switching back. Unfortunately the Canidae did not work for my crew. |
What were your dogs on before when they were scratching so much? |

"It will keep for 30 days if kept in it\'s own package and then set into a clean sealed canister and kept in a cool dry environment." 40 pounds is still probably too large a quantity unless you have a lot of Yorkies, but I guess 30 days is better then 14. |
