Belle It is wise to have her xrayed. You will be able to see how many pups and that is a big help to know when she is finished whelping. It sounds as if she IS pregnant..has all the signs. Does she have a clear, sticky discharge? That is rarely seen in a non-pregnant bitch. Breeding can be very costly and you can not scrimp on what is needed for your bitch..if your vet sees one oversized pup, you have a heads up that there is a good chance she will need vet assistance to deliver..several smaller pups usually pass with no trouble..although things go wrong for no apparent reason sometimes..it is best to be prepared. Get a box for her..an oversized cat litter pan works well..put a heating pad under the box, not inside..keep it warm. Have the vet check you bitch after whelping to make sure all the pups are passed and her temp is normal..make sure she eats well...give her calcium, daily after she whelps..not before. Good luck |
Aww them mixes are sooo cute. I have a yorkie poo. Good luck with the babys |
Hi, I am new to this site. I have a pregnant yorkie who got locked up with our male. The first lock up that we know of was on OCT 25 meaning she should have the pups around Christmas. Im wanting to know some signs to look for so I know she is going to be whelping soon. Her back nipples are really swollen. They are filling up fast it seems like over night. My yorkie has gained like 3 pounds since she has been pregnant. So im guessing shes going to have a lot of pups or big ones. The male is small so I dont think the size of puppies is why she is gaining so much. Their parents both had like 7 or 8 pups for their first litter. So i dont know, if any one has any advice or anything please say it. Tamara |
7 or 8 pups  isnt the "average" like around 4? |
I think average is like 2 or 3. Cecilia was one of 5 which was a big litter. |
litter I have had litters of 6 and 7 pups from normal size mothers. Most litters are 3 to 4 I find...please read my earlier posting, your bitch will need care afterwards..good diet and suppliments..consult your vet. Best of luck to you. |
Well, Bell is not expecting... She did tie , But I guess it wasn't meant to be. Does anyone know when the right time is to breed during the female cycle?? I always thought that it was right after they stopped bleeding and if the female accepted the male she was at the right stage!! Guess I was wrong! Please post an answer if you have had experience with breeding, Thanks, Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!! |
timing I have had 30 years of breeding experinces with mine and stud services. You sound like you bred her the correct time...I breed about 9 to 12 days for the first breeding after color has cleared and bitch is accepting. If the bitch accepts the male, she is ready, why your girl missed is what happens sometimes. You must have taken her to the vet for an eray which was wise...now you won't wait for pups and worry. I like a 10, 12 and 14 day breeding for a first time bitch..after they are proven I usually breed 12 and 14. I find more miss because they are bred too early as too late. Remember the semen can live viable for up to a week. Was the male proven and producing litters regularly. If you would like to private message me perhaps we can talk, do you have a mentor? |
Hi!! Our baby girl mated on Oct 29, and we are newbies at this... her nipples are larger than usual, and she has been very lazzy. The first weeks she started eating more than usual (we feed her dry food), for the past week she has not been eating a lot. I took her to the vet and he thinks that she is pregnat, will schedule an xray later. He said that she had a little bit of high temperature and gave her some medicine. Yesterday I mixed some moist food with the dry food and she finally eat. From reading earlier posts I'll switch to puppy food and start givinng her cottage cheese 1 X day. Please let me know if there is a site I could check with additional info regading the pregnancy and birth process. Another question... how could we get a mentor? Thanks :D |

I need Help!!! I found out a few weeks ago that my Yorkie became pregnant. More than likely she accidentaly bred with a Dachsaund....meaning that I am going to be having "DORKIES." The main thing that I am worried about is her being able to have them since they might be too big. It was a minature that she breed with, but I am still worried. She also has two hernias in her lower abdomon. She is very close to having them and I am trying to figure out if there is any way to tell when she is going to have them within a 12 hour time period, so that I am prepared. Or do you think that it is best to take her to the vet??? Any information would help. |
I am new to this site as well. But only wanted to tell you my Princess has 2 years old she's 4 pounds and i think she is pregnant too. But my friend has 5 yorkies and when one of her yorkies was pregnant the vet told him not to take x-rays before they are close to birth because it could burn the puppies. I don't know its true or not but I would recommend you not to do it now... wait a little longer I think you'll start to notice because mine is 17 days and I'm noticing her mammary glands are a little swollen and her teats are pointy. I hope it helps... Angie:) Quote:

why did you mix breed on purpose? yes they are cute but there are way too many mixed breeds homeless in shelters rescues and pounds! |
Well this thread was started 2 years ago, The information here is not correct anymore... As my Bell is on her 2nd pregnancy..(in 2 years);) Thanks Anyway.. |
1 Attachment(s) Hey Lovelyorkie, That is too funny, because I have a Yorkie and a Maltese and they got stuck like 4 times different days of course. That was like around Nov 14th, so I think she will deliver around mid January. I swear her belly is fuller and yes she is very very lazy and affectionate right now, and she got sick a few times. I am curious to see the outcome of your babies and mine as well, it will be a nice mix. I am new to this and I really enjoyed all the information posted here. I am attaching a pic of my two babies Oakland(Yorkie) Koona(Maltese) Angele |
