				   | My Sassy had a litter the other day. The stud owner told me to take the pup to her house @ 10 days and she'll dock the tail and dewclaws. I know with my labs it was @ 3-5 days after that they grow nerves. So what should I do? She's a tiny yorkie (3 oz) and 2 days old. Should I have the vet dock her tail and do her dewclaws when she is 4 days? Or, should I have the breeder put her in pain @ 10 days (I'd rather not). Does anyone out there breed little yorkies that could help me out with this? I live in Los Angeles county and would love a referral to a vet that has experience with Small yorkies. The vets in my town do not! Thanks! |

				   | No, 10 days is too long to wait. I would have it done between 3-5 days. Remember the older they get, the more they will feel it and the more it will hurt for them. Sorry, I don't know of any vets in your area.

				   | You COULD skip the docking alltogether....more and more breeders are doing so, especially since undocked is the norm in Europe and Australia.. That is what I would do. |

				   | Tomorrow (Sunday) is the third day. Im going to call a vet I used before to do the dewclaws on my lab pups a year ago. The stud owner seems to think that the yorkies will bleed to death if done before 10 days. But I don't want to put my little angel in any pain, so im going to talk to a vet and hopefully get her in tomorrow |

I found a great vet who will do it in Hollywood, but he does not prefer to. He did a great job on my little boys. He even let me tell him exactly where to dock (because they don't really know) and my boys yelped for 2 seconds and then were great. It healed wonderfully and no bald spot at the end of the tail. PM me if you want his information.I want to learn to do it myself for my future litters. ) When the time comes (I have a while) I will be up on here asking for "the run down".

				   | the pups are 3 days old today did the tail docking 2 hrs ago all just fine. just a quick snip and its over. that went right back to nursing and it is healing up quickly. I ve done about 15 and they are so pretty. some think it is just a horrible thing to do. but to each its own. thats why they recommend at this age. see ya.

10 days is way toolong. Oops! You're in LA.....I would suggest you contact Linda Bush, she's listed on the YTCA breeders list. Bejaze Yorkshire Terriers. She's in Orange County and has a Vet that she trusts 100%
