| Eating Grass Anytime Stewie can get near grass, he eats it. I dont even want to let him outside anymore. Luckily, neither of my parents use fertilizer or weed killer or anything of that nature on their lawns and neither do our neighbors. Anyway, my dad just called me @ work to let me know that he puked up a mound of grass and is lying around looking ill. He did the same thing on Monday after eating a bunch of grass at our Mother's Day bbq. Any suggestions? Should I just not let him run around? That would be awful. Thanks!

| My dog is also a grass eater... she also enjoys: leaves, mulch, pebbles... pretty much anything she can get in her mouth. I don't have a solution for you. Sorry. I hope Stewie feels better.

| Hi Stewies Mom: My comet used to eat grass alot also. The advice that I've gotten which you probably already know is that dogs eat grass to make themselves vomit. Perhaps Stewie is probably trying to clean his own system out? Maybe he ate something that didn't agree with him? Comet ate grass alot and eventually lost interest. Now he only sniffs and digs through it. I realize that I was also feeding him Science Diet at the time. Now that he's eating Innova, he leaves the grass alone. I'm sure that Stewie will eventually wean his way off on his own. Comet is 5 months old now. How old is Stewie? |

| Stewie is 6 mos. He eats Nutro mixed with a little Eukanuba (euk is his hands-down favorite). I wonder if I should get him on something else I've heard that about dogs cleaning out their system, but he does it EVERY time his paw touches a blade of grass. Its so frustrating.

| Stewie's mom, my yorkie didn't eat grass, but he did used to lick rocks, concrete, and the brick around my mother-in-law's fireplace. It was so frustrating to me and I was constantly onto him about it and he did it any chance he got, but then we switched his diet, and he stopped licking all those things completely. I don't know if he was trying to get something from those things that he wasn't getting in his diet or what...I'm not sure if this helps you but I just thought i'd share a similar experience with you. |

| ...I do beleive that there must be some minerals in the grass that stewie is drawn to. I thought that all dogs get sick from eating too much grass and snow. I guess not. I understand how frustrating it is for yorkie owners whose dogs get sick from it. Changing Comets diet and adding healthy treats in between meals helped us 100% with the grass eating problem. Good Luck ! Last edited by cometsmom; 05-11-2005 at 02:25 PM. |

| I heard that grass helps them clean out their digestive systems! Fred lays there sometimes and I see him occasionally roll over and nibble on grass! We don't put anything in our grass either! I just hope he doesn't accidently eating some dirt or something! |

| ....My dog had to be rushed to the animal emergency hospital for digesting too much grass on Easter Sunday, he was vomiting so much that he was given a shot of pepcid, because he was soooo dehydrated from eating grass. So obviously, if grass makes a dog vomit to a point of dehydration, I think that all yorkies who have dogs that vomit from grass need to be careful. |

| My problem is Starsky likes to eat sticks. I can't believe how many sticks we have in our yard. Starsky keeps finding them everywhere!! He has thrown up a couple of times from eating those. He is just a pup so I hope he'll out grow this!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Magic will also vomit if she eats grass....anytime she is outside she tries to eat the grass and then will later throw it up...our only solution is to limit her outside time and when we do go on walks to keep a close eye on her to make sure she is not to eating anything...sometimes we can't stop it though and that is most fustrating...I am really hoping she grows out of it!!!

| Eating sticks is definitely not good. They can tear their esophagus and stomach. But grass is okay, unless they eat so much that they vomit a lot! One of my girls always eats some grass when she sees it. My other yorkie doesn't look twice at it. But I always heard that it's okay for them to eat grass. It's like getting a little salad in their diet. lol |

| I have heard and not sure of the truth to this or not, but animals eat and digest grass to aid in vomiting when they have an upset tummy. It's to make them feel better.
