| I gave my Aiko greenies when she was little because I didn't know any better (first dog) and she couldn't poop them out. Her butt was clogged. My husband had to pull it out and he told me if I give her another one I'm doing it next time. Only organic treats from now on. |

| I am glad I read this...As most of you know right now I have 5 Yorkies, My three and two pups and I had just bought 5 greenies, and was waiting for "the right time" to give it to them all at the same time. I had no idea about any of this. Guess I'm taking them back to Petco...Thank you all for this thread.

| I learned the hard way about greenies. One got stuck in my puppies throat and he was choking and tongue turning blue. We tried to dislodge it while rushing to ER. An experience I'd not wish on anyone. All turned out well because we were near when it happened and acted quickly. He ended up frightened and with antibiotics for the throat irritation as a precaution. They shhould be banned forever. By the way, I had purchased them at my vets office that very same day..Needless to say they are now banned from his office now. |

| I gave Bentley a greenie ONCE when I first had him before I knew better. Luckily.. he didn't enjoy it anyhow and didn't eat it. Now I do bully sticks and Better Than Ears --they are imitation pig ears that are low-fat and highly digestible. They are made from mostly healthy products, such as soy flour and wheat bran and my dogs ABSOLUTELY love them! |

| This topic came up today in another forum. I'm reposting my reply to that inquiry here to bump the thread: ORIGINAL QUESTION: "Are greenies dangerous?" (or something to that effect) Yes. Very. I know from personal experience with my dog, Tahoe, who suffers from pancreatitis and other digestive problems, I am told resulted from damage because I gave him one of the smallest size greenies a week and it became lodged in him. I was fortunate enough that we were able to save his life. I didn't know they were bad. As soon as I said that he eats "greenies", my vet knew right away what his problem was. He said that it's common knowledge in the vet community that Greenies can kill your dog. It was after we experienced this that I found all sorts of info on the web...many similar cases.... I took this list of referenced webpages off another page: http://quikonnex.com/channel/item/15795 http://www.optimumchoices.com/Greenies.htm#Lawsuit http://www.optimumchoices.com/Greenies.htm#Stories http://forum.natural-animal-health.c...opic.php?p=810 http://network.bestfriends.org/idaho/news/1740.html http://www.reviewcentre.com/vt107968..._orderasc.html http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/40917.html http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4572721 http://catsndogs.c-double.com/ftopicp-28.html http://www.nbc4.tv/news/5373855/detail.html http://www.all-creatures.org/aip/nl-...1-warning.html http://www.mysticalpoodles.com/poodl...article32.html http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0.../greenies.html http://toronto.craigslist.org/pet/141913725.html This website is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC and not for people with light stomachs: http://improvehomelife.com/greenies.html It drives me absolutely berzerk that PetSmart and PetCo sell this product and use it as an "impulse" item at all their cash registers. They continue to carry it despite my telling the manager and salespeople what it does to dogs. No concerns for dog's well being. I've read they've changed their formula, but I don't believe a thing they say because they denied the dangers for YEARS despite countless deaths. I'll repost this as its own thread in the appropriate forum. ~ Kelly

| No more greenies for Bella. I thought the new formula was safe. I am so glad that I found this thread. Any suggestions for organic alternatives to greenies?

but anyway, NO Greenies! I used to give them to Kayah ALL the time.. and although nothing has ever happened to her.. as soon as I read that original story. We stopped! I went to Petsmart and got her the Bully Stick. Now we buy them from Kathryn at www.BeyondSpoiled.com (Kathryn_V) which Kayah enjoys more. There's also thes new thing Target carries called Jerky Links by Waggin Train brand. They have Liver, chicken, and ham.. They are All Natural and look like little sausages.. Kayah goes so crazy for them that as soon as I give her one, I have to find a new hiding place for the bag.. otherwise she'll scratch at the place the bag's in and whine like crazy

| OMG! Teagan adores Greenies, they're like her favorite chew treat! I hate to stop giving them to her, but after reading this thread, I will. It usually takes her two days to finish a petite Greenie - she will eat about half right away and then just keep hiding the other half in new places all around the house. I am going to need to find a replacement! The main reason I like giving them to her is because they keep her so busy. They keep her occupied when I have a lot of homework or projects to to do! |

| Because it's all about the money and they have a formula that dogs LOVE. They don't care about the animals or the fact that these animals are our FAMILYMEMBERS and that when one of them dies, a part of us dies with it.
