I don't believe it is a natural behaivor. Think of it this way, what if you had a Great Dane or St. Bernard, would you be allowing them to hump things, such as the arm of your sofa?.

It is a behavior that can be discouraged. Just scold him when you catch him doing it. I would probably even crack a newspaper loudly or use the can with pennies.

It is not a natural behavior, in fact in the wild, only the top male would mate, the rest, even though they are in tact, would not be allowed to.

You just need to act as the alpha dog and put a stop to it. What if you had a large breed, would you allow it from them?

Not that I have noticed but he will lick & lick and then his thing comes out and he looks all emabarrased and was kinda humping the air but he will even lick during the night.

It's thought of as "cute" to some because our dogs are so little but true...I'd hate to see a Great Dane getting it on with a couch arm. It can also be a dominance thing. My mom's spayed female Maltese, Lily, has her humpy care-bear that she loves dearly.

But, be careful how often and how much Simon's allowed to play with Molly. Wasn't it just recently someone posted about how their yorkie threw his back out from humping too much and the yorkie was in pain.
