Question about Jadens dry food... I've been reading on here what different people feed their dogs but wanted to get an overall opinion on what I'm currently feeding Jaden. When I picked him up I was reccomeneded to get Purina One Sensitive Systems with yogurt for Adult dogs and to feed him 1/2 cup of it a day. It has salmon in it and what appears to be a lot of good things but it also has cornmeal in it and I've heard that this can be bad for yorkies? We have a walmart, target, petsmart, etc. around here and I'm just wondering from that selection what would be the best for him to eat? He's two years old and 4 pounds and two ounces and pretty active. We go for three walks a day and he runs like mad in the afternoons. I've been feeding him 1/4 cup of dry food in the morning and evenings and mixing it with Gerbers baby vegetables like sweet potatoes and sqaush. I'll also mix in some lean turkey or chicken sometimes and occasionally some hard boiled rice. Anyway, I just want my baby to be the healthiest he can be and would like anyones opinion on what they feel is the best to feed a smaller yorkie? How often they feel a smaller yorkie should be fed and what if any supplements should they be taking? Thank you SO much!!

My furkids Donating Member | Most of the dog foods you can buy in the grocery stores and the stores you mentioned (expect PetSmart) do not carry quality foods...you are correct...cornmeal is NOT good for dogs...either the 2nd or 3rd ingredient will probably be by-products...you can go onto dog food sites and it will tell you exactly what by-products are...I gaurentee once you read that you will stop feeding you furbaby this food..You should stick to foods that are made with human grade products...this is only my opinion but, I think you will find others on here feel the same way I do...I feed my adult Nutro Ultra Adult and the puppy gets Nutro Ultra Puppy...they also have wet food that you could give once in a while as a treat....

So what kind of food would you reccomend from petsmart? There's so many brands and different types there I get overwhelmed just looking at all of them. Also, do you guys mix vegetables with your furbaby's dry food? He doesn't seem to like his dry food plain so I've been mixing baby vegetables with it, is that all right?

dry food It is overwhelming with all the dry foods what is the best what is not, I started with chicken soup she didnt like, then I thought royal canine 33 was a great food so I bought she loved it but then I saw that it had corn and it want good so I went to nutro natural she did not like, I have gone back to the royal canine and she will eat the entire bowl everytime, I am sticking with it. I did see that you give some turkey, I was told never to give turkey or pork, her favorite treat is yogert cheerios, she loves those for breakfast also, I wish you luck with everything. This forum has answered so many questions for me.

Thanks! Thank you guys for getting back to me. He doesn't really seem to be liking his dry food so I'm having to mix other things in it and now he just picks through it until he gets what he wants and doesn't want to eat the dry food. I've been doing some research and I'm debating between these brands: Nutro, Merricks, Innova, and Royal Canine.. Between those which ones do you guys think is the best? And what brand within those brands? Like for small dogs, or active ones, etc? Also, I'm not sure Petsmart carries all of those so if any of you buy online, where do you by from? And for those of you who feed "human food" to you dogs, what is good for them to have? I'd been feeding him grilled chicken and lean turkey meat, but not any ham or beef as I'd heard that was bad for them. He'll eat vegetables like sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, etc. But most of those, with the exception of green beans he likes in the baby food formula. Is this bad for them or is that ok? He also likes the meat sticks that they have for babies, are those ok as a treat? Thanks for all the help!

Teddy was having some tummy trouble and one of the things I thought could be causing it was the canned food I was mixing with his dry food every day. (Even though I only used just enough to coat the food) So, I have been giving only dry since I went back to food after chicken and rice. He wasn't really liking the plain dry so today I boiled a large chicken breast, a tiny bit of olive oil, carrots, green beans, pees. After it was all boiled well and the chicken removed from the bone I put it all in the blender so there were no large chunks. Spooned a little over the dry and put it down for both Teddy and Chloe (my golden) They both devoured it in what seemed like seconds! I'll try that for a while instead of the can I was using.
