Post parvo contamination period of THE DOG Ok. I have a question for you guys. I have a puppy who has just made it through parvo (she had it when I got her ), and this is my question. How long do you think she could possibly pass it on to other dogs if I bring her out? I am not asking about OUR environment and how long it is contagious, that is no issue thankfully, just about my bringing the dog into other houses that other dogs may visit...even if the animals didn't come face to face. I have called a multitude of vets, all either don't know or seem to just make up an answer ranging from she is ok now (which is NOT the case), to wait a year. I realize that there is no black and white answer, but what do you guys think? Most online sites say to wait at least a month. This is fine, and I will wait as long as need be, but I was hoping to be able to bring her by thanksgiving...?

I honestly don't know anything about parvo. Sorry your little one had it. What a miracle it is that she recovered. I'm going to bump this up for you in case someone else may be able to give you a better answer.

I was told if Madda made it she would need to be secluded away from any other animals for at least 30 days....

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows. I guess it is only logical to wait AT LEAST a month. Thanks guys for the responses though. (Yes, I was so thankful that my pup made it. I nursed her here at home for about a week, giving her subcutaneous fluids and all, I really think that is what saved her. It scared me half to death, but I have given injections before, so really this wasn't that different. Just like one big LONG injection....)

| I wonder if there is any way that after 30days or so, the vet could do a blood test on her to see if she still has the virus and is carrying it. I'm glad to hear that she made it though!

We just went through the same thing (I'm getting Kya next week, and she came down with it last Friday) and her vet said that she won't be contagious after 14 days, according to some sources, and 30 days according to others, so I'd say in this case it's definitely better to stay on the safe side! I'm glad to hear your baby made it through, too!
