| Water Question We have just made it through our first 24 hours with our new 8 week old baby boy. Today I guess I made a mistake by leaving him with a bowl of water in his tiny little area (about 3 feet square, with his bed, litter box and food and water). When I came back (gone less than 1 hour), apparently the little guy and gone for a "swim" in his water dish and was wet and shivering. I take it I should not leave free choice water? How do you all handle the water situation? |

| I know my Bernie loved to go for little swims at all times, however, it is important that they have access to water at all times. Bernie has seemed to outgrow the swims, but maybe another type of dish would be better for you. Good luck!

| Water bottle was the way to go.... ...for us anyway. What prompted us to switch was the fact that her beard had really begun to grow, and every drink ended up with a dripping wet face which began to cause a stinky-face. It took no time at all to switch her over, and WOW what an improvement. If you decide to try it, don't get a hamster or ferret bottle, make sure it is for dogs. They have a larger diameter tube and the ball is not as hard to move. To help encourage Crystal to use it I smeared a dab of bacon grease around the end of the tube, she went nuts and in turn found her water supply. Our floor stay dry and the water stays clean also. |

| I always leave water out for Rocky. Maybe try getting him a smaller bowl that he can't fit in.

| Thanks for all the great tips. I went and bought a hamster/ferret water bottle (haven't tried it), but will return it and consider the dog one (will have to order one). I think the little guy learned his lesson after that as we have not had that problem again, a paw or two, but not the whole body. I also keep it less full than that first day - live and learn Thanks again for all the great advice. I love YT! |
