| too small for vaccines?? okay i got a pomeranian puppy that is about 3lbs and 9-10 weeks old, the breeders says that she doesnt give the puppies vaccines because she has lost several after they got the vaccine, and i have had around 5 people tell me to wait because she is small, wait until she is 12 weeks at least.. now magnum was only 1lb and i took him for vaccines he did get sick once but as far as i know nothing permit was done (magnum did pass away but it had nothing to do w/ a shot) would you all wait until then? My other two are all up to date w/ vaccines i dont plan on taking her anywhere other than the vet... |

| Reece had his first shot at 8 weeks old and did fine. He is due for his second shot this week and is 12 weeks old today. My vet doesnt use the Lepro (sp?) in the vac. because it can sometimes make a little dog sick. I think it should be fine to vaccinate your pup. Im sure your vet will recommend it too. Congrats on your new baby!! Do you have pics anywhere? Dawn |

| I dont think they can give only half but you can get the vaccines without the lepto. My dogs had the lepto and they were fine though

| At 3 pounds she definitely weighs enough. I, too, am not crazy about vaccines, but I still give them. If they are puppies to be sold they get them at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks and mine are half the size of yours. I never give Lepto. The vaccine for lepto only guards against like 5 strains when there are over 50 strains. It has the highest reaction rate than any vaccine, even higher than the rabies. Dogs have died from the vaccine, but lepto is rarely fatal. The vaccine is only good for 6 months so, technically, to be "protected" you would have to readminister it every 6 months. I never give rabies with another vaccine and never before 6 months, preferably closer to a year unless you feel exposure is a problem. |

| They just have to give her a smaller dosage, that's all. If the puppy is going to respond to the vaccine, I think the response would happen regaurdless of her size. As long as they give her the right dosage, hopefully it will be good

| when I got bella, My vet wanted me to wait a few week, bc she was soo tiny. Then when she did get her shots, if she had to have more then one, then they waited a week in between shots... just to make sure, she didnt have any reaction to the shot I would take your pom to the vet and see what he/she says about it. |

| the vet i went to gave cash a rabies vac at 14 weeks when he weighed 1.6lbs and he didn't have a very good reaction to it considering his immunity was compromised due to a cold. I told the vet not to give it to him cuz he was so small but she said it was a legal issue and injected him anyway . needless to say i switched vets. i think it all depends on the immunity of the doggie cuz my cousin's yorkie never followed up with any vaccines nor has she ever been to the vet and as far as the naked eye can tell she's healthy (i don't let cash play with her for fear of catching something) but cash on the other hand, had him 3 weeks and he's been to the vet for one thing or another .

| My yorkie pups do fine with the first round of shots, but they always get sick to their stomach with the second set. I think that is when the vet includes the lepto. Maybe I should ask him to leave it out. Also, in this county they insist on giving rabies at 4 months. My Yorkies are so small at this stage that I always go with the 1 yr. vaccination rather than the 4 yrs. |

The reason it's a legal issue, is incase your dog gets infected and bites another person or animal. Also remember, that the shot might make them ill for a little bit, but would you rather have them ill for an evening, or have them come in conctact with a pathogen and be violently ill and/or pass away.
