| Bordetella My vet recommends this vaccine twice a year, is that good? Misha has already had this according to her papers, & it says it expires 1/07. At the vet, they said if she goes to the groomer, or is around other dogs, it's a good thing to have it twice a year. I don't want them over vaccinated. He also mentioned about giving Piper another rabies vaccine, since she was only 12 weeks when she had her first. The breeder couldn't ship her without it. He said she was to young for it to work. Is this a crazy vet? We have already changed vets once do to a bad experience. I need some answers. I tried looking at how often for what vaccines on line, but couldn't find the answers I needed. Does anyone have a good link on this? Or know.. Thanks |

| Not sure what is true or not but ... My vet said for the first year give 2 rabies shots. One when young and the other 6 months later. He said after that just once a year or once every 3 years... depending what kind you were giving. He said they have one year and 3 years rabies shots. Borditella i always do once a year.

| Thanks, I didn't think she would need another one. Is it ok to disagree with the Vet on this? |

| Jewells always has a reaction to the bordatello. She just has it once a year. I would tell the vet you dont want more than 1 a year

| I am too afraid of the Bordatello. I've read that too many have had bad reactions or ended up with kennel cough. When Joey had his teeth cleaned and 4 pulled, I took his taxi and told them not to put him near the other dogs. Keep him in his taxi in another room till I picked him up. I will do the same when I have Izzie spayed. I won't let them put them with the other dogs.

| I have never given Diesel the shot. He has only been to the groomers once and has never been boarded.I guess I should really think about giving it to him but he is so little (at least to me) and I am scared to over vaccinate him. Michelle |

| Thank's for responding. I think once a year is plenty also, since we don't plan on boarding. Most people only get a flu shot once a year to help prevent getting it. Doesn't mean they won't. That's what the vet said about the bordetella vaccine. Just because they get the shot, doesn't mean they won't get it, it's just a booster to help prevent getting it. Sometimes I think vets are just vaccine happy. |
