| HELP: My older yorkies has leg cramps OK, my yorkie is about 6.5lbs, a lil overweight, but thats b/c he doesnt want to play much, hes about 8 1/2 yrs old. Hes been getting leg cramps for about 2 yrs or so. its gotten worse in the past months. Recently he has started to cry for no reason, when someone accidently touches him or something. As of last week he has completely stopped going up & down the stairs in my mother in laws apartment building. Sign 1. We have come to figure its b/c hes realized its overweight & most of the time he tried to go up he misses & has to start again, so he has decided to stop, we help him out by giving him a lil push but to no avail. It started with him throwing up last nite, just yellow. I figured hes been down all day & didnt eat then this evening he woke us up by crying for no reason, we thought he must have gotten caught in some cables, we checked on him & went back to bed. This morning i went to get up & just barely stepped on him when 1 i felt him & 2 he started crying, as i picked him up he cried even louder. I put him on the bed next to me & he cuddled up on my arms & started to shake out of fear! I pet him for a while & talked to him & he calmed down, but any sudden movements would make him whine. A friend told me that the leg cramps are actually Seizures, is that true? Can anyone tell me what may be wrong with him? I know 8 yrs old is kinda young for a yorkie, so Im really worried about him... if anyone can help. I appreciate it!!! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm not an expert and have never had a dog with these symptoms but have read alot on the subject - and I really doubt it's cramps. I think you need to take him to the vet asap - they can tell you what's going on. There are a few things that could be happening - but so you're informed when you go - here's a site for you to read that talks about the common and unnecessary problems that happen with Yorkies ..such as Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (LCP) & Patellar Luxation or Luxating Patellar (LP) http://www.yorkshire-terrier.biz/health-problems.aspx (if people didn't breed dogs with pre-existing conditions ...many of these ailments would be erased from the breed). I'm sorry your baby is in pain. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I agree with Villette, sounds like that not cramps, it could be one of those conditions now aggravated by arthritis. The vet should be able to tell pretty quickly. Good luck.
