Teething ok, but vomitting?????? Help! Our baby is five months and is now teething. For the past three days, he does not eat or play like he use to. He threw up once this morning and ate a little bit more after that. I called the vet and he told me to change his food to soft foods. I don't know if that is a good idea to change foods in the middle of all this. I am scared he might get diarreah-i think i spelled that wrong...anyhow, I added water on his food and he ate a little bit, but I don't know if I should listen to the vet... What do you think I should do? Thanks for your help!

| Teething is a troubling time for them, and sometimes it just takes them awhile to become comfortable again. Our dogs in the past have experienced the exact same thing. Don't worry, he'll be fine and come around soon enough. As far as the food thing, I don't think I would switch to soft food completely. I might just mix in a little soft with the normal dry that you give him. You obviously still want him to eat, but the dry might be a little tough for him because his little mouth is aching. Switching over totally to soft food might make his little tummy upset, and your right, will probably give him diarrhea. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Layla is going through the same thing right now! she is loosing her teeth about one every other day. she has lost interest in eating and if i feed her by hand i can get her to eat a bit. however she has not lost interest in her treats so she has been getting a few more than normal lately. I wouldn't change his food because then you'll just upset his tummy too. one problem at a time i emailed my breeder about the teething and she said eating less than normal was to be expected. I went to PetSmart and got Layla puppy freezies which she LOVES and that way i know she is getting some fluids at least. She also threw up a couple times.. not a lot.. as there wasn't much in her tummy. Not sure if this helped.. but i know it is nice to know you arne't the only one going through something

We haven't experienced this with Teddy yet ... but he does chew a lot, so does that mean he's teething? I don't think he's lost any. He's only 14 weeks old. When does this stage begin and do dogs usually vomit?

i'm begining to think chewing never ends but layla didn't lose a tooth until she was about 5 months. she licks a lot.. like her lips.. i think the feeling of loose teeth is werid for her. i knew she lost them because i open her mouth a lot to get her used to the feeling and to make brushing easier when her adults are in. she doen'st seem to be bothered by loosing the teeth, but she is bothered by the gums where the adult teeth haven't cut through yet. they are red and swollen.. and she doens't eat much.. she only threw up twice.. and not much.. didn't seem to be bothered afterwards either.. good luck with the teething
