| Flea Dirt? ewww Is this flea dirt? Tucker only has it in certain little patches and it is grossing me out. At first I thought it was scabs from his allergies, but now they won't go away and I don't know. I'm afraid he got fleas from my step Gma's dog (don't get me started on that!) but I've given him his Advantix on schedule and washed him with Dawn dish soap and never seen any. What can I do to get it off him? He's getting a bath tomorrow! (btw, Tripp doesn't have any of these spots, but I have found 2 live fleas on him?!?)

| Flea dirt, looks like black sand. That looks like a rash on his skin maybe? My maltese is allergic to fleas and if she gets even one or two fleas she gets a rash like that. |

| I can't tell from the picture, my eyes are not that great. But flea dirt looks like black specks and in my experience the dog would have to have more than one or two fleas to have enough flea dirt to be noticed. If you keep him on flea medicine regularly like you are you should not have any problems with fleas. Sorry I can't tell you whether or not it is flea dirt, I would just take a flea comb and comb through his hair to look for fleas and what you find or don't find will tell you whether or not it is flea dirt. I just looked at the second picture again, and I think it is flea dirt. Flea dirt can be directly on the skin or in the hair, so if any of it is clinging to the hair then you know it is not a rash and it is flea dirt. From the picture it does look like it is on the skin as well as the hair, so my bet is that it is flea dirt. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong, I don't have the best vision.

| fleas IT may have started from fleas biting him..but now it looks like he is scratching and made a rash..Teatree oil shampoo works well, as does Chlorhexaderm...a course of amoxie will help also...lots of times you see this on the lower back...Kate has a few red spots under her front legs and she is on flea meds, so I think it was from her dress..I used the shampoo...good luck |

| They usually have flea dirt when they have alot of fleas not just a couple. That does not look like flea dirt to me it looks like a rash. Your dog could be allergic to fleas. If Chachi gets one flea on him he gets irritated and gets a rash. He is allergic to flea bites. Also flea dirt washes off very easy thats another reason I dont think its flea dirt.

| It doesn't look like flea dirt. Mine have had it off and on throughout the years and have been seen by a vet - no diagnosis. It's not mites or an allergic reaction. Mine have never had fleas so I don't think it is associated in my case with them. It's very sticky and it doesn't come off with bathing, or Q-tip dipped in alcohol, hydrocortisone doesn't do anything. It seems to be associated with the summer heat and seems to come from their pores. If you ever get a diagnosis I would sure like to know what it is. |

| I've found the solution! I still don't know what the heck it is... but I agree with you Lacy's Mom that is has to be something in their pores because it's the devil to get off! But I did! During his bath I used a rubber brush, with big soft bristles and it went away! the brush is almost exactly like this: http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...bber&N=2023689
