My little guy is sick again!!

The new food may be okay. You hear good and bad about a lot of things here on YT. That's what makes it interesting. Considering the problems poor Zeus is having, I wouldn't make any changes without your vet's approval right now. It may just take a little more time for his little pancreas to heal and get more normal.

My older yorkie had a terrible bout of pancreatitis in the fall. She is much better now, but occasionally throws up. Once I see that happening, I give her a half tablet of flagyl and that wards off a full blown attack. My vet sent me home armed with the stuff. See if u can get some. My vet said it was caused by too many dog jerky treats. (lay on the guilt!) The only treats she gets now are carrots and her regular food which is wet canine i/d and wellness.

Hmmm, I am nervous now!! I have heard and read about the issues with the liver and pancreas but my little Puppers who is 9 1/2 months old is fine. The problem may lie here... I work at an assisted living community for seniors and they have slipped him some bacon on occassion (few times a week), him eating this, will it increas the chances of him getting sick?

Is the sickness something that will happen or is it caused? How old are they when they usually get sick? I am very worried now. Any info would help!

Also, I have a new litte girl puppy named Lucy that is 8 weeks old, I dont want her on the same habits as Puppers...

Again, any advice would be appreciated!

Carrots is the only treat we give ours too. Baby Blessing loves them. Patti

Why don't you give all the "Grand Parents" safe treats to give to Puppers and later to Lucy? You can give them baggies with carrots or other treats and everyone is happy!

It happens when they get too much fat in their diet. Bacon probably isn't a good idea. Zeus had never had anything but his dog food and we had recently gotten him some peanut butter treats for dogs and that is what caused the pancreatits. Peanut butter has a lot of fat and his little digestive system just couldn't handle it. So, no more peanut butter for him. I would just try and keep a close eye on what others might be feeding Puppers, since they aren't aware of what it could do to him.

The only treats we gave Cassie was "carrots, carrots, and more carrots"
she loved them, never ever had any health issue to deal with. We now give Baby Blessing carrots for her treats. She loves em. Patti

Veggies can be great treats for our Yorkie babies. Also, occasionally a little bit of fruit..maybe apple... is okay, I am told. I am lucky that I have not had a dog with pancreatitis but it seems to be happening more lately. Maybe, the vets are getting better at diagnosing and treating it.
Any fatty food can cause a flare-up. I bet the grandparents will co-operate if you don't take Zeus to work a day or two and then explain to them that the vet says he has gotten some fatty foods and they are VERY bad for him....and they made him sick..
They can feel like they are helping in his treatment if they understand how sick fatty faoods can make him and how WELL he can feel if he does not get them..
