| I'm reading this post and worried I'm doing something wrong. Moose is 3months and when I brought her home at 8 weeks I was feeding her twice a day....RC puppy. but she wouldn't eat the food in the morning she would sniff and walk away. so after a few weeks I went to feeding her the 1/2 cup of food at dinner which is between 4 and 5pm she eats it all and hasn't had any issues. She doesn't even want anything in the morning. Even on the weekends when I'm not at work and she's not in her "home" she's doesn't want any morning food. Just a treat around noon and that's all. We were at the vets sat and she is gaining weight. gained a pound in 3 weeks. So should I try to make her eat twice a day or stay with what she seems to be happy with?

| Each yorkie is different, there are no rules for how much or when they should eat. Some eat alot, some dont eat much and some will eat 2 to 3 times a day whilst others will eat only once...If your baby is healthy and gaining weight, then you arent doing anything wrong I have 2 yorkies and both are totally different.Lady weighs 2lbs and eats alot during the day,she comes and goes to her bowl (I free feed) and eats a little every now and again, then she has her high calorie canned food 3 times a day which she also eats, she is 17 months old.Jess is a year old, weighs 7 lbīs and only really eats once a day.She never has anything in the mornings or afternoons, she likes to sit and eat her little heart out at night..lol.We used to worry that maybe she wasnt eating enough and we used to put canned down for her too,but she kept leaving it so we stopped doing that.If your baby is ok,then you really have nothing to worry about |

Thank you that makes me feel better. Lil Bear always eat twice a day and now she has free feed...which has still not made her a big fan of her food...but i told her she has no choice, she has a liver shunt, but when moose did the I don't eat in the morning thing I thought something was wrong but with her weight gain and her always hyper attitude I thought she was doing ok with food once a day, but it's better to hear it from another yorkie mom.

| I leave dry food out all day as well for my 14 week old Diesel. I also have a 15 year old yorkie at home, and I dont feel it was fair to take up his food when he has been used to eating anytime of the day....altho, the 15 year old is now eating the Royal Canin which is for the Diesel and is probably way too many calories, but hey, he's 15 years old and if it wants to eat it, I let him. They both get a lot of exercise during the day.. Last edited by YorkieMom2; 04-19-2005 at 08:57 AM. Reason: left out the word "all" in the first sentence |

| For young puppies it is really important that they eat at the very least 2 times a day. Older puppies (closer to 1 year) and adults can even be fed 1 times a day. I know it is hard on our schedule, some of us are just not available...i was looking on the net trying to buy an automatic feeder, i think that is a great option. You don;t have to leave food available at all times if you don;t want to, it is what works better for you and you puppy that matters. Also about the quantity of food, if it is making yout yorkie fat just reduce the portion a little bit...every yorkie is different, just like us humans, so we have to adapt to their needs.

| Wow, that does sound like a ton of food. I feed my lab ( don't have a yorkie yet) Eukanuba Naturals Lamb and Rice and she only gets 2 1/2 cups a day. I'm feeding by the guidelines on the bag and she weighs about 70-75 lbs. |
