| ![]() Hi, Chloe had this problem before and we sprinkled some meat tenderizer like the vet told us too. It worked for a while, now she is 6 months old and she just picked it up again. Does she do this bc there is a lack of nutrient in her food? Is it normal for her to be doing this? She takes the poop into her house so that we dont see her. ![]() Thank you!!!!! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ![]() Dogs can eat poop for a couple reasons. 1) they are lacking nutrients in their diet. what kind of food does Chloe get? 2) Female dogs are more likely to eat poop then males because they are cleaners. Females likes to keep their territory clean at all times so they'll eat their poop to keep their yard clean. ALot of times, if your yard is not fenced off from your neighbors yard your dog will choose to go poop on the neighbors lawn so that she doesn't mess her territory. 3) dogs are dogs and they do gross doggie things and we will never understand why. LOL There are a couple ways to get her to stop eating poop. 1) take her outside on a leash and right after she poops walk her away from it. If she tries to eat it give her a short sharp "NO" and give a little sharp jolt on the leash (since she's a little dog you don't want to do it too hard, but hard enough so she gets the picture). If you do this for a while she'll eventually get the picture and stop eating the poop. 2) immediately pick up the poop after she does it so she doesn't get a chance to eat it. 3) after she poops, sprinkle hot sauce on it and let her eat it. it will taste horrible and she most likely won't do it again once she realizes all poop will taste horrible. 4) there are a couple products you can buy to sprinkly over her food. tastes good in the food, but tastes horrible in the poop. hope this info helps ![]() |

| ![]() Thanks for the great tips.....im afraid of putting the hot sauce since it might be poisonous to her. I heard most dog cant have anything of human food since she is sooo small she cant have it. Right now the food she is eating is wellness it is in a pink bag have u heard of it? i found a link for it: http://www.premiumfoodsonline.com/si...64/page/432673 anyother tips bc she goes in the house where her wee wee pad is.... since she is a female and she is a cleaner of her territory, does this mean she will do it forever? ewwww...... ![]() and what are the products that you can sprinkle over her food.... Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ![]() Wellness is a great premium food, so we can rule out the nutrients problem. The hot sauce, as long as you use a little bit, will not hurt her at all. All these tips i've learn from the vets i've worked with in the past. however if your still wary about using it you can try the other products meant specifially to deter poop eating. Forbid and Deter are the product most people use. Also you can try lemon juice or something else you know your puppy hates to eat. picking it up immediately and the leash method are the easiest to use, though it may be hard if she does it in the house when your not looking. she might still grow out of it and she might eventually listen to your No's. just remember not to scold her if you find out about it minutes after she's done it. she will have no idea what your yelling about. you can only give the No command as she's doing it, other wise it will be lost on her. |
