| Thanks everyone, I am going to try giving Jaci some boiled chicken and some vegtables once in awhile. And I will also check out the books mentioned.

| I am guilty of giving table scraps too. Lola enjoys boiled chicken, steak, and salmon(she can't eat this anymore though because her stomach has become sensitive to it.) She also enjoys asparagus, brocolli, cooked and raw carrots, and pasta. She seems to only become picky when it comes to dog food. We don't just give her table scraps. She eats Merricks wet and Royal Canine dry. |

| My dogs eat a lot of people food. Chicken, other meats, carrots, cheese, cottage cheese, and a lot of leftovers (which could be almost anything). They don't get much people "junk food" --- potatoe chips, candy, cookies, etc., because these are the foods that I try not to eat myself ---but they do get occasional bites of these things. And as far as people food goes - my dogs don't pig out on any of the above foods.....they get small amounts of a wide variety of people food. (For instance, they might get some cottage cheese for a day or two - but then not again for a month or so). ***** And, mine occasionally get to share a "hotdog." I love hotdogs myself - but, I don't have them very often. --- I can't see how a few bites occasionally could hurt my dogs. ***** When we discuss the different types of food we give our pets - we need to keep in mind that (like people) some pets seem to have iron stomachs and others more sensitive stomachs that aren't as tolerant of different foods. My dogs seem to be able to eat almost anything - with no problems ever. This doesn't mean that all dogs can do this. ***** And - when we give our dogs different types of food - we need to keep an extra careful eye on their weight. I think they are more apt to become overweight eating people food than they might get on a strict dog food diet. It's the old adage - with dog food, they eat to live --- and with people food -- they might start living to eat!!!!! Good luck - Carol Jean |
