| Panting Heavily, Doesn't Drink Water! Yoda's been quite the active boy as of late, getting outdoors to walk about and strut his stuff. But sometimes, when he gets does too much or overexerts himself, he starts to pant heavily. Of course, I try to get him to drink a bit of water, but at times he flat out refuses. It has been a bit warm, around 80 or so the past few weeks. I also try to put him in front of a fan to help him cool down a bit, but it sometimes worries me when he pants so heavily... |

| Toto pants heavily like that too ... but [like I said in the other post] she drinks a ton of water! Sometimes when it's really hot we just give her a little dish of ice ... she loves ice!! Likes to toss it in the air! Be sure to check Yoda's gums ... they will look really pale if his sugar level drops!

| Oooh, thanks for the gums checking part. Welp, it's sort of good to know that it just ain't Yoda doing that. Yeah, he does drink tons of water usually, but sometimes he just doesn't want any more. Really weird kid. :P |

| I think it is just away they cool down. My two do it after we walk and don't always want water. They just want to lay down on the cool floor and be left alone. Not me I want water and a fan blowing on me...............Cindy |

| Thanks Cindy! Our Yorkies don't have any sweat glands, so the only way they can "let out" the sweat is through panting. It's comforting to hear that it's not only Yoda with the panting. |

| Now, I won't worry so much when Toto does this! Thanks! Also, do your babies curl their little tongue up to their nose when they pant?! Toto does this if she is hot, thirsty and also if she gets upset! It's sooo cute but also tips me off that she wants water, we have had her outside too long or that whoever is upsetting her is about to get into big trouble!!

| Yoda curls his up his tongue a little bit when he pants, but lately I've noticed that it's super wide (his tongue) when he's panting heavily. I always offer him water when he does this, but stubborn little guy refuses it once in a while. Funny we get comfort in knowing that our Yorkie isn't the only one that has a certain trait. |

| Higgins drinks more frequently than any dog I have ever known. And he pants heavily after good hard exercise. Doesn't usually want to drink then.....but think about it......When you are breathing really hard from exercise, it's really hard to catch your breath and drink at the same time......You need to get your breath back and THEN have a drink......see? They know what they're doin'! I keep telling you they're SMART! hehehe |

| Roxee already has learned to Pant and we've noticed that after she's played for a long period of time she does it and she curls her tongue up and it does look so cute and like Higgin's Mom Roxee drinks alot of water we keep water down for her in three places through out the house just to make sure she has all she wants to drink. |

| Stormchaser, I thought we were the only ones who did that!! We keep four "comfort stations" throughout the house for Toto!! If she's "gotta go" we see to it that she has no excuse for not going in the proper place. Usually if she has an "accident" it's our fault ... not hers! We keep a crate with a wee-wee pad and water in our bedroom, a crate with a wee-wee pad in the den, a litter pan for medium dogs w/wee-wee pad in the office and she has her X-pen with food/water, bed, wee-wee pad and toys between the kitchen/dining. We make sure those water bowls are clean and full at all times! She will drink water from your hand while you pour it from the bottle if we are out and don't have a bowl handy!!
