| Help! My Chewy needs to lose weight! My baby gurl of 6 years is over weight by 10 lbs! She weighs 18 lbs! Sure, I know she's no slender lady, but 10 lbs? My vet put her on Science Diet, Prescription Diet (1 cup a day) and veggies if she is still hungry. If she's still hungry...helllooo. I am on the Atkins diet, myself, and I thought that would be good for her, being they are carnivores anyway. But my vet said the protein could be too much for her kidneys. Anybody have any thoughts on this, or better yet, any facts? I've been on the net, searching, but haven't come up with anything concrete yet. Hope simebody out there can help me. Thanks guys. |

| i don't have any advice but if you find out something i would like to know my lhasa is VERY overweight, that combined with her old age is really hurting her. she can't jump up or down on certain things, she just sits there and barks for you to pick her up and sometimes even jumping off the couch (which isn't high) she will hurt her shoulder or hip and limp for a few days. |

| Mine does the same thing. We made a ramp for her to get on and off of the bed and couch. It works great. I was killing my back picking her up every 5 mins! lol |

| Hi Sydergurl, I was just woundering if you were ever able to get your furbaby to loose weight? This is such a problem with mine, because like you said they are still hungry and it just brakes my heart. I thing that has helped my Buffy is baby carrots.

| I can't speak toward the diet, however, I can speak about exercise. One of my little chihuahua's got overweight and we took her for several walks a day and more play time in the yard. Exercise is VERY important. We succeeded and so can you!

| Well, I have Good News! Chewy lost about 2 lbs, but most importantly, she has been exercising ALOT and she is in good shape! She can walk a long way without huffing and puffing, and the best thing, her luxating patella doesn't luxate or whatever, anymore. She walks fine! Whoo hoo! I have put her on Natural Balance beef and turkey rolls, exclusively. For treats, I give her little tiny pieces of the same, and Pupcorn, which is low in fat and calories. All is well with her. But now, alas, her sister Sierra, has the same problems. She got overweight, has a luxating patella. can't walk well, and gets very out of breath when she does walk. It has been very hot here, so that makes it worse, because she hates the heat. But I have been taking her on our nitely walks, after it cools off. I carry her in a pack, for a while, and then I put her down and encourage her to walk a little and then carry her again for a while, then put her down, etc. We do that for about a half hour walk. So, I think it will eventually work for her as it did Chewy. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I've read that MIXING GREEN BEANS in their dry food really really helped a womans yorkie lose weight - I can find out more for you ....but I remember that she fed her yorkie steamed GREEN beans mixed in with the dry food. her baby really lost weight PLUS she didn't have to cut back that much on food cause the beans took the place of what the dog was used to eating. |

| I'll have to try the green beans for my schnauzer cause she's a bit on the tubby side. I've given her baby carrots but they upset her tummy and give her bad poopies.

| Hi Red, Thanks for the Green Beans info., and yes if you can give me more on how to serve them......I would appreciate it. I forgot on baby carrots they natural sugar, so must be limited. Buffy is 5.5 pds now she was 6.12 and needs to loose 1-1.5, so she only get 2-3 carrots a day.
