| vaccinations It's going to be time soon to have the puppies vaccinated. I've heard so many different views on the "leptospirosis" vaccine (in a combo). My vet seems to think it's okay, and my 3 yorkies had no reactions whatsoever, but I've heard it can be dangerous. I would love to hear some pros and cons, but please give a reason as to why you feel that way. It would help. Thanks a bunch!!

| Thanks for info, I just got back from taking Emilee to the Vet for diarhea. Worried me since her pups are only 2 1/2 weeks old. I asked him again about the Leptosirosis vaccine to be sure and he said it's not worth the risk to not get it. He did give her some meds to stop her diarhea. He also said it's not good to give cottage cheese, but pediolite for dehydration and Pepto Bismol is okay. Hopefully it works quick. Thanks again.

| I haven't given it in years. My vet also does not recommend it in toy breeds.

| It is so hard to know what to do for sure. My Vet says don't go without it, your Vet say no, and I've heard soooooo many on both sides. I guess I just have to make up my own mind, but sometimes that is really really hard. Thanks, I love YT so much and all the different ideas and such.

| I think you have to evaluate you situation ( your state, cases in your state and where you let your dog(s) roam) The breeder I am getting my dog from advises against it, and so do the vet's in my area. I have researched my area and there were 3 cases back in the early 90's, however they were special circumstances.

| lepto If you speak to Yorkie breeders and their vets, you will find very, very few who give Lepto. The first shot is not the problem as a rule..it is the second and third lepto that can cause a reaction and worse. Best of luck in whatever you decide. |

| Pat is correct. none of my puppies had a reaction to any shots but 1 had a reaction to the 2nd even with no lepto. then off another litter 1 had a reaction to a booster (1 yr after her puppy shots) wich included rabies but no lepto. her 1st round of Rabies was fine the second round was nasty. My vet doesnt give lepto until they are 6 months old and asks if you want it 1st. Since then he gives the Rabies on diferent days from the other shots. From now on I choose no lepto because our area has been clean from lepto and rabies for quite some yrs. now and she has been vaccinated for rabies 2 times already. Check your area and make your desision from there. |
