Are Bully sticks safe for yorkies Hi I just brought Gucci a bully stick the woman in the pet store highly recommends for small dogs she says they are very safe to chew on unlike rawhide or greenies , I like your input? does anyone here buy them... Thanks! Gina |
I havent heard any negative things about bully sticks . I would have to agree that they are safer than greenies . |
Ive bought them. They are digestable so yes they are safer than greenies. |
Ted loves bully sticks!! He requires so much attention that when I have days that I need to get something done all I have to do is hand him one of those and he is happy as a lark and busy for hours. |
We had a bad experience with Bully sticks with Sedrick. Like rawhides the puppies tend to chew on one end until it gets all "gross and gooey". I took my eyes off of Sedrick for just a minute and before I knew it, the gross and gooey end got stuck like glue in his esophagus and he started to choke and could not breathe. I know that you are never supposed to stick your finger down their throat but this is what I did and after three attempts to dislodge it he gagged at the same time I was pulling on it and it finally let loose and I was shocked the piece was almost 4 inches long. Needless to say - no more bully sticks for my boys. |
Rosi loves them also, but still cant get nothing done, because she wants me to hold it for her while she is chewing on them...sigh !! |
Trixie LOVES bully sticks. I hate them because they get sooooo disgusting when they are gooye!!! Plus the fact that they are dried bull penises, blegh!!! But I still give it to her because she likes it so much and they are better than rawhide or greenies. |
My three love bully sticks, and what better use of an old dried up penis? LOL |
Do they make any that are not smoked? I hate the smell! Lexi is a kisser & knowing what she ate makes me ill.................. :( |
Starsky loves bully sticks, I let him naw on it until it gets small enought that he may choke on it and then I take it away. I do notice it makes him pretty thirsty. How many bully sticks do you give them in a week? Starsky starts them and then my beagle finishes it. |

Oh my!!! That is the FUNNIEST thing I have heard all year!!! You win the prize for best humor in a thread in my opinion! That is hilarious!!! |
I was going to say I don't want my girls "Bullied" with a "Stick" but now that I know what a Bullie Stick is... Yuck... I really don't want them to have one!!! |

I'd never heard of them, so I did some online research. I didn't find anything that said they were dried up penises, though....LOL! Everything made reference to them being made of beef muscle/tendons. Where did you learn what they really were? EEK! |
lexi has them everyday, i never take them away from her |
bully stick my romeo luvs bully sticks. i order them from dog.com for about 80 cents each. he goes nuts when he hears the ups truck. it's so cute to see his excitement. he dances around the box until i open it up. the one problem i have is he chews it constantly and his jaw gets sore. so he can only have it for a little while everyday. :aimeeyork |
You know, in reference to the smell..... I have now bought two of them - one was a 5 inch one and one was a 12 inch one that I cut in two pieces. They are both Merrick brand. The first one smelled like pee but the second one just smells kinda smoky - not nasty at all. Wonder why they would be different? Maybe one really was dried bull penis and the other just a muscle/tendon thing??? Any ideas anyone?? |

I have always given a thumbs up  to bully sticks until Ransom arrived. They now are no longer allowed in our house. :( I say this for only one reason and that is purely cosmetic and not health related really. After chewing the stick and it becoming soggy and gluey in texture as is normal for these sticks. Ransom seems to have the abilty along with chewing to suck strands of his hair into his mouth which make its way along to the back of his throat. The clumps of hair lodge and become horribly nasty. This happens each and everytime Ransom chews on them. If I am lucky I can gently wash this gooey mess out of his hair. Once not so lucky and i had to cut a small chunk off. His face becomes so darn sticky and strands of the soggy stick just get's all over his hair. So, it's not fair to have Ransom watch Schatzie chew one and not have one himself so we decided to end our love/hate relationship with the bully sticks. |
Romeo's Mommy says she's only tried the bully sticks. Does anyone know what the steer sticks are??? Look at this website... http://www.dog.com/search.asp?SKW=bu...ick&searchcat= |
Hope there good Just got some at Petco because some of you here recomended so I hope they are good. We will see if Daisy likes.... |
bully stick i never tried steer sticks. i will order 1 next time. now i'm curious. |
I guess I'm gonna have to call Customer Service tomorrow and ask because now I'm really wondering what the difference is. I'll let you know what I find out. |
http://www.bullysticks.com/ "Bully Sticks are 100% Bull penises, Not a tendon, and not processed meat strips. Bully Sticks are dried, lightly smoked or natural flavor and delivered to your door. We never try to hide what they are by giving them little cute names." |
Mojo is picky and he didn't really like the Bully Sticks. When he did finally play and chew on it.....it got all gooey and sticky (reminding me of a rawhide) and it freaked me out. So, I don't think he will get anymore..... |
I buy bully sticks for my girls and they love them. I like them because they are hardy and all beef. |
Mojo never had it, and probably never will....Bull penises for my Mojo? NO WAY |
