wow...this is a very old thread!! |
This happens everyday We have noticed for the last few years that Mozart does a lot of licking in that area and sure enough it comes out. We have taken him to the vet numerous times about it. They have discussed surgery but feel it could be risky. He is 10 years old. He is neutered and has been since he was very young. Nothing changed, but one day the licking started and the sheath rolled back. At first, it was infrequent, but it has become a daily problem. The vet says that we need to keep it lubricated, but he just licks it off. He goes for grooming once every two weeks. They know to cut the hairs back. Nothing seems to help, so we live with it. I address it early in the morning, when I get home from work and before I go to bed. Since he is neutered, we just monitor it carefully. |
WOW now I understand part of why I keep coming back to Yorkietalk you're the best. I rescued my newest addition to the family, Spike, 1 1/2 years old about a month ago. Although he's been neutered I have nicknamed him "Sir Humps A LOT". Earlier today he was being extraordinarily Sir Humps a Lot, and then a little while ago I happened to pick him up and his penis was stuck in the out position. My vet had closed about 5 minutes prior to me noticing and I didn't know what to do. Sooooooooo Yorkietalk here I come, and I found out what to do, which at least caused my heart to stop pounding. He's back to normal now, now it's my turn to recover. Thank god for old posts :-) |

i have never had a problem oscar doing this but my airedale used to hump blankets and stuffed animals when he was a puppy and his penis was stuck we had to put a frozen washcloth on it to make the swelling go down. needless to say no more blankets or stuffed animals for him... |
This little boy will rummage through the entire apartment to find something...he just turns one of the beds upside down, or uses the arm of another bed....he doesn't care...he pulled an empty laundry bag off the couch, I believe that was the culprit this morning LOL |
keeping the hair on the shaft short helps so it does not curl the shaft back. Then if it happens a warm cloth that is wet works well. No problems and he does not mind. Most important...I do not make a big deal about it. I just pick him up and wipe. Then he doesn't panic or run just waits til I am done... |

and I'm SO glad it was still there.....or I don't know what I would have done...imagine what the emergency vet would have charged |
