YT Addict | Purina EN Gastroenteric Canned Diet POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION Hello friends, I was wondering if anyone fed this food to their Yorkie? My Jenna was placed on this diet some months ago as she had a sudden onset of intense vomiting and diarrhea that my vet couldn't determine the cause of so she thought this might help...and while I'm no fan of Purina I had little choice at the time. I've just tried warming a bit of this food in the microwave this morning and it threw sparks! Very alarming and not something I want to give my dog to eat now, not to mention how concerned I am that she's been eating it since sometime around March. We'll be having a checkup at the vet's this week, naturally. Luckily I have her old Natural Balance canned diet and can give her that and her kibble today, but I'll be on the phone to Purina in the morning. I figured if anyone here also uses that food, you should have a heads up. There may be metal in the food or it may have leached metal from the can. I'm located in Southwest Oregon and bought the food from my vet. Lot numbers to follow: Purina Pro Plan EN Gastronenteric Canned Dog Food Best Before Jun 2021 91701159 L28921535, L28921517, L28921515, L28921534, L28921523, L28921520, L28921530, L28921529 (These were all the remaining cans in the flat I bought. The can the possibly tainted food came in was already thrown away.) Just FYI!

| Actually a little known fact: some foods do spark in the microwave! I had it happen to me once with some mixed veggies. I have used Purina EN in the past without any issues. I am sure they will have an explanation. I do know their customer service is good. I called them once about cans where there was a hollow core in the middle of the food. They were great.

| Found these links: https://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/in.../1332278331477 https://curiosity.com/topics/heres-w...wave-curiosity ........ I also just googled dog food sparking in microwave and found a bunch of info. Apparently it is the minerals in the food.

YT Addict | Thank you, Ladyjane. I did try to google sparking dog food earlier but was unsuccessful. I took a quick look at the links and will read them over again tomorrow before I contact Purina. It did occur to me that it might be natural minerals in the food, but I microwaved two other canned dog foods (Natural Balance and Hills) and didn't see either of them spark, so it still scared me enough to not feed it to Jenna. I've microwaved so many different things, never with this kind of reaction, so I'll be sure to follow up on it just in case. Thank you so much for all the info!
