| Diet for Kidney Disease in Yorkie My dog (Yorkie, Female) is 14 y/o, weighs 6.5 pounds and was recently diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. I have been feeding her Primal raw food, 3 separate meals per day, 1 ounce each meal. Too much? I also give her organic green beans. What would be a good diet for her?”, based on the current situation? Money is not a factor, I can cook, if that is the best option. Thank you for your help. |

| Hi Gold1, Welcome to YorkieTalk and bless you for the love and care you show for your senior sweetie. I don't have first hand experience with the disease. Imagine you have read many online articles. Dr. Cleeste Clements, DVM, DACVIM includes a section in "Chronic kidey disease: What does kidney failure in dogs really mean?" PetHealthNetwork (n.d.?) titled, "General treatment goals ..." Has your vet offered feeding suggestions? Thank you again for the love and care you show your senior. I'm sure she's special. --KatysMom |

| Have you talked to the vet about it? There might be a prescription dog food for it.

| There is a service out here in Los Angeles, that can create a food formula for you that will be tailored for your pup's needs. All food formulas are created by a team of vets. The questionnaire alone took me an hour to complete and they still wanted all vet records, and possibly wanted to speak to all vets my pup has seen in the last year (regular vet, and his current specialist). My pup's neurologist team has highly recommended them to me. They also have pre-made, or can make your custom formula for you. Seeing as how you're not in our area, the recipe they create for you can be made at home. https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/ I'm sure there are also other similar services in your area. We currently opted out of this service, as my pup is having other health issues. Once his current health issues as addressed, then I will be signing up for a custom formula with them.
