| Heartgard with food So I may have screwed up and I am hoping that I didn’t and someone can calm me down. I gave our dog his heartgard this morning after his walk and then without thinking, I fed him his breakfast. The instructions say can be given with a little food but he ate about half of his food right after taking it. I can’t find much about whether it matters or not if given with a meal or only a little food. He was treated for heartworm in December so I am paranoid that screwing up his dose is going to mess up keeping him clear of the worms for his retest in a couple of months. |

| I don’t think it matters if it’s with food or not. I always give mine after a meal. So he tested positive for heartworms in December? Has he gotten the treatment for that? If he tested positive and the actual treatment wasn’t done and you are just giving heartguard it could kill him.

| Thanks. He tested positive at the shelter in October and then he was transferred to a different shelter in November to begin treatment. He was given the treatment and had X-rays done and his final dose of treatment was in December and then we adopted him at the beginning in January. His treatment was completed and they said to just keep him on heartgard and retest in 6 months. |
