| Squinting Eye My Bella keeps squinting her left eye, I am not sure if something is wrong with her or if this is a sign of maybe something that could be more severe. Her left eye also looks like she has black eyeliner under it and its like as if its not always open all the way ... her right eye is totally fine... has anyone has this issue before? |

| No but it could be a scratched cornea so a vet visit is in order. Eye pain is especially tortuous.

| It could also be an eye infection (conjunctivitis). Hence the eye boogers (black eye liner). To the vet with you, ASAP, and let us know what it turns out to be.

| Eyes are definitely not something to play with and any eye issue is considered an emergency because it can take so little for them to loose their eye sight so a trip to the vet ASAP is in store.

| This happened with Sasha. I don't even remember what the exact diagnosis was but the eyedrops they gave (sold) us cleared it up in a couple of days

| This has happened to Cody more than once from scratching his eye and he ended up having an ulcer, which can get larger, if untreated. All eye issues need medical attention, asap. Hope all will be well Quote:

| We went to the vet this afternoon and her eye is swollen actually both are but he did an eye screening and no ulcers or scratches so the drops should clear it up, so thankful it’s nothing serious |

| So glad no ulcers or scratches. That's good news! What was the vet's diagnosis? What caused the swelling, squinting? Allergies or another shampoo?

| he said it could really be anything, even something she got into outside while in the backyard or on a walk, I find a lot of the times vets are very vague. |

| I haven’t found my vets to be vague but mine always make sure I understand. Did they also check for dry eye?

| he did not mention it to be dry eye at all. While doing her checkup he said she needs a thorough teeth cleaning as there is some gum inflammation and tartar buildup. They did blood work to make sure nothing is wrong with her so they can give her anesthetic for the Dental work to be done. He said it will be about $350 for the dental... out of curiosity has anyone had this done before on their little furbabies? |

The thing is, even with regular, yearly dentals - like Tibbe has all his life - they can still get an abscess of the nerve while teeth and gums are fine. I found a scab on Tibbe face 1 1/2 inches under his eye at 6:30 pm Saturday in late August and rushed him to the ER vet. She said he had an abscessed tooth! Told her he gets regular dentals and tooth brushings but she said extraction is only treatment. She started him on antibiotics and that Monday I was at my vet's, who had a fill-in lady vet who did the emergency dental. She called to say the tooth and gums are fine, thinks it was a foreign body so gives him big antibiotic shot and he comes home. The scab stayed, his eye above that tooth kept draining and I cleaned his face, eyes twice or more a day and kept close watch for pus or reddened eyes or bad smell. Followed up with the vet who said x-ray showed no FB and gums, tooth were fine! Left there with pain medicine and more antibiotics. Took him to another vet who said gums, tooth were fine but x-ray showed the nerve root was infected, not uncommon in Yorkies she said, and as rounds of antibiotics hadn't cleared it up, the tooth and its infected nerve root would have to go. Said she doubted there ever was an FB! He had the dental extraction and the scab, infection and draining eye cleared right up! Careful, gentle daily brushings avoiding the surgery wound returned at about 5 weeks post-op and at 8 weeks returned to normal brushings. Poor dentition in Yorkies is a well-known problem so have the dental, any extraction of decayed or infected teeth and begin a regular brushing program. IDK but possibly the eye squinting could possibly be from infection deep within the jaw at the nerve root of one of his teeth and pain. I'd get him to a vet you trust and get his dental situation x-rayed and checked out, treated. That is not a bad price and be sure to have pre-op blood work done. Best wishes to you and that sweet baby.
