| Just joined! HELP..yorkie hair is thinning bad My yorkie, Hayley, just turned 8. She weighs 4.0 lbs. In the last few months her hair has been getting thinner and thinner...It's not in patches. It is an all-over thinning down her back. You can see her skin all the way down her back through her very thin hair! She is really looking bald. Vet did blood tests. Thyroid, hormones, etc are all fine. She doesn't think it is cushings disease because Hayley is lacking all the main symptoms. She is on a very good dog food. She isn't itching or scratching. Any thoughts as to what else could be causing this? Thank you! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | What brushes and combs are you using for grooming? If all is well health wise I would look to the grooming tools and products.

| hair loss Thank you for your replies. I use a slicker bush on her when she is groomed, but I have to brush very gently since she is so little and her hair is so fine and thin. |

| Did your vet check for mites & fungus via skin scrapping ? Also, just because she's not showing any other symptoms does not mean she doesn't have Cushings. Was the Thyroid panel sent out to UT ? Ask how thorough the panel was & where it was sent. There are so many things that can be tested as far as Thyroid goes & often vets only do a general Thyroid panel & in my opinion that's a waist of time as it leaves so many things uncovered. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It does *not* matter that she is not showing the "major symptoms" of Cushings - that's why it's SO grossly under-diagnosed and misdiagnosed! My dog Wylie is 12 and was diagnosed w Cushings around 4 yrs old...after being misdiagnosed for a YEAR. Hair loss is a HUGE sign of potential Cushings. With Cushings, there is no rule that says a dog must have "X" number of symptoms - no no no. The very, very first test you do any time you just suspect Cushings is the Cortisol-Creatinine Ratio Urine Test -- it's *not* a diagnostic test - it's a test that will tell you whether or not you should indeed further pursue the actual Cushings tests. Here is an overview about Cushings: Cushings (Hyperadrenocorticism) | | Long Beach Animal Hospital
