| Is Male Yorkie Becoming Sexually Mature? Fabian just turned five months this week, has not been neutered yet, and is acting "differently." He waits by our front door and back sliders for half an hour or more at a time, looking out at something we can't see. (Once in a while, it's a squirrel or chipmunk, but not usually.) He's eating well, but doesn't like being held, even nipping and biting with wild eyes where he hadn't before. In his own time, he climbs on our lap and seems to mope restlessly. At first, we thought the biting might be teething pain, but there's no increase in general gnawing and bully stick interest. He's also awake a lot earlier than usual, which is around the time we put in our window air conditioners. I guess we may know more if it stops/ slows in a few weeks. Other than continuing to distract him with toys and activity and getting him neutered later, what can we do to make him feel better? Closing all our windows in summer is not an option. We try to vary our walking routes, too, but can't see if that's making any difference. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Puppies can go thru these stages / changes - so don't fret - things will calm down again. Yes, it could be hormonal. Could also be teething pain...maturing...a combo of things.

| Thank you. Fabian is much more calm now around the house that we know has a female dog, so I am presuming the other dog is out of heat now. He is also not clamoring at our own door so much. Assuming the neighbors do not get her fixed, how soon may we expect something similar to happen again? We are trying to hold out off on neutering our puppy until he is larger and better able to undergo anesthesia. |

| Male dogs can smell a female in heat several miles away. So if there's one he'll be looking to get out, be very careful when opening your door, he may just dash out. Males are usually neutered between 8 months and 1 year old.
