| Is there any way to cure pulmonary hypertension for my yorkie? I have this yorkie, Rock since last Sept. Now he is 10 months old and about 4lbs. We have noticed for a little while that he sometimes coughed for seconds and then stopped and returned back to normal. We thought it might be due to the dust or hair something because he was always searching for food on the carpet. Two days ago, he refused to eat, which was quite abnormal because he always had a good appetite. Also he was not active any more. We checked his tone and found his tone kind of blueish. Then we took him to the emergency. The doctor did x-ray and also echocardiogram and found that Rock's heart was much bigger than it should be. The cause is that his pulmonary artery is smaller than normal and this causes the pulmonary hypertension. However, the doctor could not find out what made his pulmonary artery smaller. They did lab test and found no heart worms. After giving Rock some oxygen and treatment, he got better that day. Then the doctor sent us home and gave some medications, Doxycycline, Sildenafil and Pimobendan. This seems the best he could do so far since he does not know the reason. But he said that he had seen another two cases in his life so far. And in the other two, the dogs returned back to normal after one month's medication. But they still did not know why that happened. So right now what we can do is to treat Rock with those medicine and take him back for recheck after a month. I am searching online and everywhere and trying to find if there is a cure if possible. Right now the medicines are just for improving the symptoms. I am wondering if anybody else who has the same experience and could give some suggestions. Thanks a million. |

| Unfortunately there is no cure for that cardiac issue. It is only management. A cardiologist should be the one managing him and he should be getting regular echocardiograms. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would have some faith in the meds you've been given. Many yorkies here on YT have pulm HTN, CHF etc...and do remarkably well! My Wylie has had CHF for a good 6 yrs now and is going strong at age 12 .

| Yea. The doctor told us the same thing. I just want him to live as long as possible if it is manageable. |
