| Not a good eater Ever since I got my yorkie poo at 12 weeks old, I've had a heck of a time getting him to eat well. I try food after different food, dry, wet, with dog sauces, He barely eats it. To the point where his tummy gets upset (acid?). I tried out of desperation to entice him by putting people food in it: chicken, beef, some veggies, eggs, nothing harsh or greasy. THEN he eats and will even eat his food if it's mixed in well. What should I do? I thought dogs were easy to feed! My cats were way easier to feed! I want to make sure he gets proper nutrition but I at $20 a bag I can't try every dog food out there! I can't tell you how much I've given away to friends with non-picky eaters. Very frustrated!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What food did he come home on that his breeder fed...? Feed that. You can switch up later. Right now, he absolutely just must eat. Try sprinkling Parmesan cheese on his food.

| If you buy your Dry dog food at Pet Supplies, Pet Smart you can return open dry food, they will take it back just tell them your dog will not eat it. Of course you cannot use 1/2 the bag then return it, after a couple of cup fulls you know if your baby likes it or not. Return if he will not eat it. Playing the food game can be costly.

| Thanks! Thank you for the tip about Pet Smart. I will try that. One thing I didn't say was that I've had Lokie for nine months. He is eating just is very picky when it comes to dog foods. I didn't want you to think he was wasting away. I want him to get good nutrition not just calories.

| One of my girls is very picky and we do warmed boiled chicken in the moistened dry food (must be the perfect temp haha). When she gets extra finicky or if I have to leave her with someone, she gets boiled Bison in with the moistened dry & she'll ALWAYS eat that... might not be ideal for everyday because it's pretty expensive & my vet recommended not doing this regularly since it'll be extremely difficult to get her to eat should she ever get sick again. But, in a pinch she cannot resist the Bison. Good luck!!! |

Oh the things I tried to entice him to eat. I even make loud eating noises, pretending to eat his kibble! haha... Now, he's become stable and eating regularly. Three brands (out of the 5 or 6 they tried) that worked well: Acana, Orijen, and Fromm (what they eat now). I soak his kibble in warm for about 5-10 minutes for each meal. I also sprinkle some Nature's Farmacy ProbioticMax supplements daily onto his dinner, which has been working great for his digestion. Not that I'm suggesting you get a second dog. But when baby Casie came along, who eats like a pig by the way, metaphorically and literally (she eats really loud), Scottie had no choice but to eat quickly or she'd try to steal his food. lol
