Even my 10 pound, 2 1/2 year old Maltese still eats twice a day. And he's not overweight at all for his size.

				 | Sully gets 2 meals a day....one when he gets up in the morning and one right around dinnertime. But he does NOT free-feed. Sully gets about 15 minutes to eat his food and IF he walks away from his bowl for over a minute or two, his food gets taken away. We've done this ever since he was a puppy to teach him to stay and eat it while it's there or it's GONE. (We think he has a little bit of yorkie-ADD sometimes haha.) Anyway, Sully's "poop" schedules are very predictable and he is very healthy, gets all the food he can eat during each sitting and everything is great! Try being more strict with your dog's food before you go to 1 meal a day...that's my advice. Good luck!

I have never fed only once a day. These Yorkies can get into trouble at any age from hypoglycemia and besides, could one of us get by with one meal a day for life? Gawd, not me!! A 17 week old puppy should still be on 3 meals..IMO

Pebbles is the same way, she will only eat one meal a day, and it is at night around 6 pm, when she was little she used to eat 3 tiny meals a day, then she went to 2, and then she wouldn't eat the morning meal, so when she started leaving it I decided to leave it down and she wouldn't eat it, I guess because it was old, or I don't know, so I would pick it up, throw it away and make her a fresh one for her night (2nd) meal, and she would eat it, and after doing that a couple of times I decided to just make her food at night, and that's what I have been doing I think ever since she turned 1, she is almost 2 years old. Now, I have heard that it's not good to just feed them once, but both her and I are used to that and I don't know how to change it, by the way, someone posted something like "what not to feed Yorkies" and milk was one of those things, I give Pebbles reduced fat or fat free milk everynow and then ... I personally don't think it's bad as long as it's not whole milk because it would be too heavy for their little tummies.

I have been told feeding one meal a day causes bloat and it is bad for their system, especially sugar levels.

I free feed Roxy all the time. Even though she could eat as much as she wants, I still have to encourage her to eat. I do mix in cottage cheese, cheese, or eggs sometimes. She LOVES that. Also, if I feed her out of my hand shell eat it....my husband says Im nuts but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do......lol

I tried to feed Lola 3 times per day and it was just a waste of food. I cut back to twice per day and still she doesn't eat until evening. I think it probably has alot to do with my dear husband, who took advantage of me being out of town and fed her chicken, steak and eggs. She now loves him to death and I swear sticks out her tongue at me! I have tried to introduce her to dry food, she picks at it eating a piece or 2 then I moisten it. Nothing is working....I can't let her go without eating. I have left dry food out and let it sit for 2 days, surely it gets stale. I may have to get rid of husband to get her on a healthy diet! If I only feed boiled chicken with a bit of rice, is that healthy for her at this age, 13 weeks? Then I could attempt to reintroduce the dry later..
