| Can't seem to hold Urine Hi, I have Charlie who is going to be 10 in Sept. He all the sudden doesn't seem to be able to hold his urine in the house. He runs around like he just can't hold it any longer even if he just went potty within the last 1-2 hours. He is having multiple accidents in the house. It's heartbreaking as when I walk into the room he lowers his head cause he knows going potty in the house is not ok. He seems to be drinking a bit more water too. Not an excessive amount but more than normal for him. Charlie is on FROMM Game Food Recipe dog food. He has been on this for probably about a year now. He was on Royal Canin for adult Yorkies for many years but he was such a picky eater I changed to this. Could it be too much protein for him and cause a sudden issue after this long? Charlie has a vet appt tomorrow morning to make sure he doesn't have an infection or something. He had his teeth cleaned 3/3/2016 and had all the pre-op blood work and all came back fine. Any ideas or things I can ask the vet to check in the morning? Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would definitely want to rule out diabetes and Cushings.

| Thank you for your reply. I will make sure I bring those 2 things up with the vet this morning. Also, Charlie is not almost 10 he is almost 12. It seems like it was just yesterday when he was a pup that fit in my hand. |

| Just back from the vet and Charlie just a bit of inflammation that showed in his urine but no sugar or crystals or anything else. The vet did say she felt something in the abdomen but thought it might be a piece of hard stool so I had them do an xray to make sure it wasn't a bladder stone. Good news it was not and they said he is so small the xray showed his heart and everything else looks good too They gave him an anti for what they believe is the very beginning of a slight infection. What a relief. Charlie has been so healthy his whole life that it scared me to think there might have been something seriously wrong. Thank you again for your help. Linda |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I hope it's just an infection. But if the peeing continues, you really do need to rule out diabetes and Cushings. Ruling out diabetes is a simple blood test. For Cushings, the very first test you run is the Creatinine-Cortisol Ratio Urine Test. And btw, the majority of vets are not well versed in Cushings and entirely miss the clinical signs that it truly needs to be looked at. My Wylie was misdiagnosed for 1.5 yrs by his former vet who kept saying nothing was wrong...while the whole time he had Cushings and hypothyroid. Yep, been there.
