Help My baby is sick I have a 2 1/2 yr old yorkie, she weighs 3lbs 5 oz, I have never had any problems with her until yesterday. She has not eaten anything since Friday, she is drinking water, but she is throwing it up. I took her to the vet 2 times yesterday, he said her heart is fine and she had no temp, he also x-rayed her and said she has no objects in her stomach. He give her cepalexin to take and she throwed it up, so when I had her in last night he gave her a shot of batryl? Is there anyone that can tell me what to do or maybe a test that I could suggest to the vet. I need help!!!

how long can she go before eating? I don't know what to do? Should I take her to a university Hosp, or keep going back to the local vet? Any help will be appreciated.

I would have to suggest trying a different vet or the university.(if it is close and fairly convient (sp?)...). I do know they can go a while without eating so long as they are drinking something....try putting some sugar in the water....but if she is throwing that up it may not help. Sometimes a different doctor can look at something in a different way....your vet may be really great but I would have to try something else... Hope she gets better real soon!!! Please come back and tell us how she does...! P.S. Did he do any kind of blood work....or check stool sample???? Maybe a urine test for some infection or a stone...

My Angel is recovering from a abdominal disease that we have finally had diagnosed as Lymphangiectasia. We almost lost him several times but after treatment and medications he is almost back to normal. There is no cure but it is managable. His illness started with vomiting and diareah. Then his stomach bloated up and he lost alot of his weight he went from almost 7lbs to 4.9lbs. He was losing protein in his blood. We took him to a specialist and was treated with a transfusion of plasma, and they did a gastrocopy and biopsy of his intestines. I hope and pray that is not what your yorkie has but it should be ruled out with blood test. The website petplace.com can give you more detail about Lyphangiectasia. http://www.petplace.com/articles/artshow.asp?artID=4769

Well I just got back from the vet and he did blood work, but I won't have the results until tomorrow, he seems to think she ate paper or something, hopefully she will pass whatever it is. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks for all your help.

blood cleansing A friend of mine in Mexico found his Schnauzer eating rat poison! The first vet gave the dog an antidote, but then someone else suggested another vet to do more. The second vet cleansed Jose's blood and he is fine and has no long term damage. If it comes back poison, please ask about blood cleansing. Let us know how it turns out.
