good people food Ok relating to my last post, I noticed alot of you feed your yorkies fruits and vegetables, what kinds do you feed them? I was just wonderin so I can see if my lil one likes any of them so if he does eat people food I know its good for him! thanks! |
baby carrots my guys love them :D |
Good People Food! Mine likes; cooked eggplant, mushrooms, onions, green beans and sweet potatoes. Honey tangerines, apples and blueberries. Tuna, salmon, chicken breast, lean beef and hard boiled eggs. Oatmeal, yogurt and low fat cheeses. He is very active during the day, seven days a week. I discussed this Diet with my Vet. and he said as long as they were fat free, no sauces or even seasonings and very bland (to the average person anyway) he in fact recommended the Salmon @ least twice a week. He also eats Royal Canin, when ever he wants, his milkbones as snacks, and Nutri-cal daily some days he will eat alot, some days hardly anything or just his kibble? But he is picky....if he has eaten Salmon today, he won't eat it tommorrow, he gets bored easy. |
onions are very very deadly to dogs !!!!!! do not feeed ur dog it |
Onions!!!! Okay here are some links I found regarding oinions as poisionous to our babies! Please don't feed them to your baby! http://www.ahts.net/PoisonFoods.htm http://www.resq4paws.org/dangerousfoods.html http://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/onions.html |
NO ONIONS NO GRAPES NO CHOCOLATE.... thats poison for dogs i DONT give Chelsey any candy that we would eat... she has her own treats!! they are made for doggies and their systems.... She gets a small piece of apple, peer, banana, cooked green beans, fish, chicken breasts ... remember NO salt! Now to be very honest.... i give her SMALL amounts of the above because i REALLY DONT think we are doing our babies a favour with too much mushy food, they have their dry food that is balanced out for them, its MUCH better for the teeth as we all or most of us do know that yorkies tend to get bad teeth at an older age so make sure ur baby gets enough denta stix to clean teeth and gums if u dont brush the teeth daily. In our house its routine to brush the teeth once a day with a toothpaste that is on the market for dogs, they come in different flavours and my baby loves her teeth brushed. Remember, never give them any citric fruits and no cabbage like veggies!! Fruits are healthy but never too much. |
do not feed raisins either! |

Archie likes cheese, carrots (cooked), green apples, hard boiled eggs (he eats the yolks first, then the white), yogurt. |
In addition to some of the above mentioned, my girl gets cottage cheese and she also really likes banana. |
Stewie ate a green grape on Friday that I dropped on the floor. I had no idea it could have been toxic to him so I let him have it... yikes |
I've heard conflicting reports on grapes and raisins...most articles I've read say it ok...one article said it wasn't...I would ask the vet. |
My Hailey really really loves cheese!! |
Nuts? What about nuts like cashews and almonds? I saw that salt is bad but was wondering if anyone has had experiences good or bad with different kinds of nuts? Otherwise we feed Bailey bits of carrots, bell peppers, cucumbers, bits of lettuce, but recently learned about how bad grapes, raisins, and onions were. We used to feed him the equivalent of a grape or two but that has stopped. Regards to all, Samc |
Is cheddar cheese okay? If not, what kind of cheese, my little one loves cheddar cheese, his hard boiled eggs and bananas. |

today i offered Chelsey a piece of peer and she loved it. For those that use the toykong for their babies could try making them a tasty icecream in the summer with Yoghurt and fresh fruit, mix the fruit and yoghurt poor it in the kong and freeze it up for a few hours... they love it ;) |
Lucy loves cheese and digestive biscuits. She loves mums stew and has her own roast lunch on a sunday. She also has a either a portion or tuna, chicken or minced beef for tea! ....hmmm no wonder she looks a little like a barrel on legs!! :animal-sm |
Nuts As far as nuts.....I heard walnuts, almonds and cashews were good for them as long as they were unsalted/unflavored, but I heard that macadamia nuts were toxic as well as coffee and chocolate. :( |
I have talked to several vets-- raisins and grapes are really bad..especially because of our little guys kindneys and liver. Protein is also bad if its high.. and over a period of time, may cause kidney "burn out". They can't process high protein. |
My baby absolutely loves baby carrots (cooked or raw), green apple, and scrambled eggs (only about 1 tblsp.) Haven't tried hard boiled eggs, pears or cucumbers yet, sounds good. |
Big mess with grapes My husband fed our black lab 4 grapes about a month ago. What a mess we woke up to all over the house. He had diarrhea so bad for about a day and then was real gassy for a least a week. A person I work with read an article at her vet's office that said 4 grapes could kill a German Shepherd!!! Luckily our lab is okay, we had no idea though! |
I forgot avocados. Bailey really likes them, again, in very small quantities the equivalent of a teaspoon broken up in several small pieces. Bailey says  to you all. Samc |
I just read that baby food is not good for dogs because it contains onion powder, which of course onions aren't good at all. Also, citrus oil extracts, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, dairy products, mushrooms, raw eggs, raw fish, sugary foods, and table scraps. The table scraps because it's not nutritionally balanced for dogs and if you do give them it shouldn't be more then 10% of their diet and fat should be trimmed and absolutely NO BONES!!! |
Bouncer loves steamed carrot slices |
Cheese Hi, I was told many years ago that Cheese is not good for dogs overall it damages the smell sense. Does someone know if this is true. My Webster loves a little bit of cheese every now and then. Tx Linda |
Gracie doesn't appear to really care for fruits yet, but she does love cheese (mostly cheddar!), meat of any sort (deli, hamburger), yogurt, cereal (small pieces of Fruit Loop type cereal as a treat), granola, cottage cheese, and sometimes peanut butter. I don't give her big amounts of anything, just little samples to see if she likes it. Cheese does NOT damage the sense of smell! Dairy products in general will certainly create thicker mucuous in the nasal cavity, etc. which could certainly affect the ability to smell but it doesn't do permanent damage. |
I just read that dogs and cats don't have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in dairy products. It can result in severe diarrhea. Other then that I don't think that cheese damages the sense of smell. |
My babys get 1/2 cup of cooked rice and chicked for dinner, and they go BALLISTIC!!! I started to feed it to them when my minpin was ill and now they get it all the time :) They also get to eat dry Nutro throughout the day for their teeth and carrots and cheese for treats. |
Bananas Be careful w/ the bananas bc they are known to cause severe constipation in the furbabies! |
I feed mine chicken and rice if they are not feeling good. I give them green beans, scrambled eggs and cheese. |
