Dogs are one of the most, if not THE most, human-manipulated species on the planet. We basically designed and created them. So there is no reason for me believe that all dogs should be eating raw food or that there is even a 'natural' diet for a... basically unnatural species.

Also, dogs systems are not 'evolved' to eating dry food per say, as dry dog food has only existed since the early 1900's and dogs have been around much longer than that. I would say they're more evolved to do well on.... whatever they get. lol. I've read a few things that seem to indicate that farm dogs were basically fed leftovers or scraps (i.e. culled or dead livestock) or in some cases sort of a cheap corn meal mush. People definitely were not going to feed dogs any kind of valuable food when many were struggling to feed themselves.

Now the thing is, of course some of these dogs likely weren't thriving, and many modern advances have been made in today's world and what we are willing to do for our pets and how they are treated in today's society vs. back then. But it's always questionable how much of it was diet or simply lifestyle.

There's simply too many things to factor in to really know for sure what's better or worse at this point. But I think there's room for all views!

There has been plenty of time for dogs systems to evolve to being used to dry food. I personally think home cooking is probably the best there are no risks when done right like there are with raw. Mine would be home cooked for but she was not happy with it no mater what recipe I tried. But she is more of a picker and really only likes to eat if she is playing or being really active. All this debate on food gets crazy. It's also annoying when people bash and or say what ingredients are good or bad and say omg that prescription food has such bad ingredients and stuff when they save lives and its people with no real studying done in vet nutrition it's crazy. The false info out there floating around is bothersome the biggest one being that dogs can't get salmonella and other such things when it fact there is proof they have and no all of them were sick and had bad or low immune systems.

I dunno if dogs need to evolve to eat kibble? But eating bad kibble is like a person eating fast food everyday to me. Homemade is always going to be better imo. Depending on what you make of course. But its easy to cross reference whats bad and whats good for your dog. Fresh everything is going to be better for dog and human. "Fresh" meaning less processing not meaning raw. Dogs can get samonila just not as easy as human. Alot ppl swear by it but I've seen alot of recalls lately. I would rather cook for my dogs. I've never seen that book. Is there alot of good recipes in there??

The link LadyJane shared is a great resource for home cooking. I've discussed Raw vs Kibble vs Home Cooking with my vet. I'm on the same page as her that Home Cooking is a great choice but kibble is/will always be the most convenient way to feed pets. She discouraged my from feeding raw because her experience with owners that feed raw has not been good. The practice has seen many sick pets that are raw eaters. Our conversation then turned to Dr. Remillard who she was not aware of and the recipe formulation that she offers. She was thrilled with the option of being able to resources out the hardest cases for proper care.

Good videos. What she is saying I've heard before. I don't like to feed raw. I would rather cook to make sure if they were any bacteria it was cooked off. JMO I also give different foods and my dog never had diarrhea or soft stools. That maybe come from severe changes in the kibble diet? Dunno.

I have fed home cooked meals for 15 years now. My dogs range in age from almost 4 to almost 15. Today all but one had sprinkles of cooked bison meat over their already pre-prepped meals as a little treat. I also occasionally sprinkle kibble over their foods - Royal Canin or Purina.

The only time we have diarrhea is when they are sick and generally they do not get sick from kibble. .

Mine don't get sick from different homemade food. But they are use to it. From kibble either. just many ppl post theres do. You use supplements?? I've read you can over do the supplements I've read they maynot get enough..Dunno I mix a little kibble and use it for training.I prefer making it because I know whats there and food quality has to be better the all the processed dog food.
