I think I've been as supportive and empathetic to others views/priorities/realities here so I don't think it applies to me either. I have color on my head now so it's a perfect time for me to pick up where I left off in Dodd's book. Planning to serve up instant oatmeal, berries (but NOT strawberries), raw honey and goat milk to the dogs tomorrow morning. I do wonder if that is modeled on Dr Dodds' own breakfast. Sounds delicious actually. Now I'm hungry.

Please try to develop a more tolerant approach when communicating with people who hold different views from yourself. Because someone holds a different set of values shouldn't be cause for remarks that they are "kooks," "crazies," or even insinuations that they are stupid because their choices run counter to your own. When you make statements and expect them to be accepted as true, simply because you made them, doesn't create an environment on the forum as a place for open discussions.

Maybe if everyone would just post what they believe rather than telling people how wrong they are things would go a bit smoother.
Can you quote who you are referring to? When misinformation is out there it has to be corrected otherwise there are people who reads these threads that could do something to harm there dog by not having the right info. I don't think anyone was called names and if they were that's against the rules so I think you should report it.

Yes, Taylor I agree with you. It's confusing what someone doesn't address the person directly with their comments. As for Dr. Dodd there are plenty of sources out their with scientific studies to back up those that believe her to be a non credible source of information. We can all have an opinion and make choices in how to feed and vet our pets. The lack of scientific data then becomes an issues when opinions are shared as factual and science based which is the case with Dr. Dodd whether you like it or not. Main stream veterinary medicine frowns upon her claims because they are not supported by science. Medicine whether it's human or animal is a science not an opinion.

I feel like sometimes on this board there are so many people that follow her that it's scary to say you don't.

I thought b.j.s comment was just a general one (maybe even pre written and reserved for food discussions on Yorkie talk?) not directed at anyone in particular. Oatmeal and honey sounds great to me too! yum!

I wasa thinking of having this test done. I think it requires saliva, did you have a hard time getting enough saliva?

Dogs and wolves evolved from a common ancestor between 9,000 and 34,000 years ago, before humans transitioned to agricultural societies. However these days dogs are more closely related to each other than wolves, regardless of geographic origin. This suggests that part of the genetic overlap observed between some modern dogs and wolves is the result of interbreeding after dog domestication, not a direct line of descent from one group of wolves. (Genomes of modern dogs and wolves provide new insights on domestication | Science Codex)

Dogs are one of the most, if not THE most, human-manipulated species on the planet. We basically designed and created them. So there is no reason for me believe that all dogs should be eating raw food or that there is even a 'natural' diet for a... basically unnatural species.

Also, dogs systems are not 'evolved' to eating dry food per say, as dry dog food has only existed since the early 1900's and dogs have been around much longer than that. I would say they're more evolved to do well on.... whatever they get. lol. I've read a few things that seem to indicate that farm dogs were basically fed leftovers or scraps (i.e. culled or dead livestock) or in some cases sort of a cheap corn meal mush. People definitely were not going to feed dogs any kind of valuable food when many were struggling to feed themselves.

Now the thing is, of course some of these dogs likely weren't thriving, and many modern advances have been made in today's world and what we are willing to do for our pets and how they are treated in today's society vs. back then. But it's always questionable how much of it was diet or simply lifestyle.

There's simply too many things to factor in to really know for sure what's better or worse at this point. But I think there's room for all views!

I actually feel like on this board that it's the opposite lately.

Yes, it was just a general reminder . I just saw two threads where differing opinions were not going well...... The concept I was trying to convey was not in dictating how someone posts. It was trying to get across that no matter what our individual preferences are we will all make choices that will not be in agreement with each other. Just trying to point out that one is necessarily better than the other, just different in our approach getting there.

This forum is basically an entertainment forum, this is not a medical forum. For the most part we are all lay people who have studied, deciphered, analyzed, accepted and rejected information regarding health care and nutrition and doing what we feel is best for our pets. What one individual will decide appropriate for them another will disregard it as not quite right for them. Just because someone posts a link (s) in defense of their position does not make their position more factual or relevant. Even the authors of the links have their own biases when writing their articles and dispensing their "expertise" in a subject. Science is not an exact, even the "experts" in their field of study can't come to an agreement , so how are we lay people supposed to . For every link that's posted there will be a link in complete disagreement. Take it all with a grain of salt

Whether you chose to lean toward evidence based medicine or integrated medicine there are no absolutes. Each method has its flaws, just one of which concerning evidence based medicine is most (over half) of the peer reviewed and published clinical research is flawed, wrong, biased, with prejudice, and exaggerated. As for integrated medicine , we have the argument that some of the treatments are not "proven" therefore they have no credibility. The bottom line is neither one is perfect or without flaws and criticism. I just don't think it's necessary to tell another person they are wrong or it's necessary to make disparaging remarks when someone's beliefs run contrary to someone else's. Just to be clear, I'm not referring to issues that would be dangerous to a pets life.

Ladyjane, page 19 warns us to never feed raisins to our dogs. The dogs' oatmeal is best served without toxic additions.
