| Do Dogs "EAT THEIR FEELINGS?" My 7 year old Morkie (Teddie) has been gaining quite a bit of weight lately. He’s very healthy though, and has never had any problems. About 6 months ago, I moved out of my ex’s house (who I dated for almost 8 years) and into a new place all by myself. Teddie had an older sister (a pitbull) that he had grown up with since we brought him home. They got along very well. When the ex and I split ways, he took the pitbull, and I kept my Morkie. I worried that he was going to feel alone, but he really hasn’t acted too differently. RECENTLY, my schedule has been extremely busy. I work all day, go to school at night, and then train at the gym until midnight. I make frequent stops at home to let him out and have a quick playtime. On the weekends, he is left alone quite a bit. I feed him in the morning, and recently have been feeding him more when I get home from work. He is begging for it, and tells me he’s hungry, so I do it. He ate once a day when we lived with my ex boyfriend. Some people have told me that they think it’s just his “winter weight” as we don’t go for walks as often (it’s been a harsh winter). I’m worried that Teddie is depressed. Do dogs “eat their feelings?” |

| I think some do, kind of using food as a displacement behavior for activities or something or someone they are missing. Some eat out of boredom for something to do.
