				   | Our wee rescue, Oscar, is the love of our lives these days. He is a real little snuggler and a shadow. He has come a long way since we took him in. The second or third MONTH after we got him we went out for an hour and left him at home locked up in the bedroom where he sleeps; lots of seperation anxiety but came home to NO problems. A couple more months go by and he appears calm. Out we go for an hour or so and came back, having left him loose, to find the pain scraped off the back of the front doors and right down to the wood. What a mess. Well, that problem is gone. He's feeling at home and much more settled. NOW WE HAVE A NEW PROBLEM. An old problem really. He stinks from the face/mouth. The vet says he needs dental work and that it is going to cost us $600+ to have his teeth cleaned. Our question for fellow forum members: What should a dental cleaning generally cost? We have changes his diet to Science Diet ORAL CARE and that has done a lot. He cracks and chews the hard "kibble" with his back teeth and the teeth in general seem cleaner but he obviously continues to have issues. Do all vets charge $600+ to clean a Yorkie's teeth? |

				   | Sounds about right to me, if xrays are included.

				   | Tell me it is not so! 1. We watch The Incredible Dr. Pol every week and cannot believe that his 19,000 clients would pay him that much $$$ for teeth. No possible. Tempted to call and make an appointment.... I think he is a 6 hour drive away and my wife wants to meet him. 2. All of our friends say $600 here in Toronto. BUT, our friends and family to the south of us, stateside, are telling us $200 all in. So confused. We are going to have to find the money somehow. |

				   | Yes, that sounds right, especially if quoting for a couple extractions. The Incredible Dr. Pol charges so little because he simply does not practice safe medicine. Notice the wrong anesthetic being used? Very little monitoring? Unsterile surgery? He and his staff do not practice standard of care which is why they were disciplined by the state of Michigan. Honestly, many people in that area of the state are unable to or uninterested in getting their animals quality vet care.

				   | I spent like $800 couple years ago but that included multiple extractions and I am in Burlington, Ontario.

				   | We just paid a little less than $300 last week It would have been under $200 all in, but when they got in they found a broken tooth and extracted it. That, pain meds, and a precautionary IV raised the price another $100. (The IV was at my discretion -- but in case something bad happened on the table it makes it much easier to react if there is already an IV in place, and that was $66 of the extra $100). Prices do vary a lot depending on location.

				   | February is National Pet Dental month at least where I live. My vet is offering 20% off if you schedule a dental in the month of February. Molly is going Monday but I have no idea how much it costs.

				   | Mikkis was $205 for the cleaning and extractions. That does not include pre work such as labs. Also I elected pain meds after the procedure which will cost an additional price. However, were I live tends to be lower than other areas.
