| Eating once a day Lexi who will be 1 years old in a week (5 lbs.), has always been a picky eater. I was free feeding her because she never wanted to eat in the morning and that worked well for her and us. Now that we got a Shih Tzu that LOVES to eat we just can't free feed anymore. So now Lexi will still not eat in the morning and will only eat once a day. Every once in a while she will eat in the morning, but it is very rare. I just don't know what to do. I know people will suggest mixing something in with her food in the morning, but that just doesn't work. It only makes her pickier. I did this when she was younger and she would love it for a couple day and then not touch it. She never wanted it more that 1-2 times and I would constantly waste food trying to switch it up for her. She has never had issue with hypoglycemia and has only thrown up bile twice (when she was about 4 months old). I guess I'm just wondering if eating only once a day is okay at this point? |

| There is a YT poll about meals per day and I was surprised by the number of people who said their dogs eat once a day. If it works for Lexi and she isn't having any problems, go with it. Does she eat snacks? You can start a routine of performing tricks for a piece of kibble if you are concerned about her eating a little something earlier in the day. Working for the reward and being handed the food always stimulates my boys.

| I agree with Kristen. If she doesn't run into any issue by not eating, then she should be fine. Peanut gets really bad low sugar if he doesn't eat. The problem was with him he would never eat just kibble in the morning so I would have to mix something in his food.. then I started bringing Weruva wet food in the mix and now I have no issues!! For me if I was going to mix in wet food, I wanted the best brand. Weruva is great, looks like home cooked meals! Now I mix a little with his breakfast and dinner!! He isn't picky because of it. He will always just eat his kibble. It really worked out for me having the wet food, he just had to get 3 teeth pulled and I had to feed him only wet for a week! I was really scared he wasn't going to eat his dry after that, but he's fine!! Maybe you can find her a little snack for the morning if you feel she needs to eat. You can always give her a baked sweet potato, small amount of yogurt, pumpkin.. something yummy and healthy!! You can also boil her a chicken breast and give her a small little snack out of that. I think it's good to have something in their tummy

| Uni was the same way as you described. I would have to try different brands of food all the time. She would never finish an entire bag. I tried mixing in stuff but she just got pickier. This lasted for more than 3 years until I finally had her spayed and now she is a little piggy. I have to be careful not to feed too much bc she can get fat and does when she goes to visit grandma for a week. I don't know if you baby is spayed but not only is it a good idea for her to be spayed, it worked for her appetite too. But she ate only once per day up until then and she was fine. Still had lots of energy. Just didn't like to eat.

| Winnie has been a little piglet since I brought her home but the last few weeks I've noticed she's turning away breakfast and eating anywhere between 12 and 4 pm. She shows no signs of distress so I thought maybe she was just maturing and didn't need to eat like she was going into hibernation! Some days she will ask to eat twice....others she doesn't. So....I will follow this thread! Thank you for asking this question! |

| Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, she has been spayed. Right after her spay she ate a lot, but I think she was going through a growth spurt because after a few days she went back to eating like she is now. I don't work so I'm able to make sure she is okay with not eating until the late afternoon. I still will keep trying to get her to eat in the morning, but nothing seems to work more than once. |

| Barney's appetite didn't come around until just recently. I am happy to say that meal time is no longer a drama. I think it may be a puppy thing.
